Hmm. My brother has never had interest in holding a job for too long so it isn't something I think about a ton. If an employer doesn't want to hire someone who occasionally disappears I understand that and I'm not sure it

My brother was diagnosed with same and certainty suffers from anhedonia to this day. You seriously think the public stigma is one of the "worst" things about it? Almost no one my brother encounters knows about his diagnosis and ye

This was a fantastic read. Hadn't heard of this puzzle and intend to read more about it now. Authors did a nice job of keeping it simple so I could get it as a newbie. Congrats to the researcher!

I'm a short fiction writer. Do you think I could get one of these new models to write a good story? I'd want to train it to include foreshadowing, suspense, relatable characters and perhaps a twist ending that cleverely references

Also a civil lawyer so not certain but I know there's a saying: "you can indict a ham sandwich," meaning the standard is very low.

No. Never have been. Nor do I work in ad tech. I'm an attorney who interprets laws, including gdpr, for a tech company that does not engage in targeted advertising.

This is a crazy way of making laws, IMO. To recap: a law was put in place 5 years ago that said if you get consent you can basically use data in any way, with some very vague and general language about how consent can be gathered and what i

I work in this industry and it's interesting to see all of the different perspectives here: chat bots are ok if passive and not proactively engaging, chat bots should support authentication, chat bots are evil and shouldn't access

I was wondering that recently. But I don't know -- I feel like they'd catch even the discerning people if they did a better job of it. Why don't they exactly replicate what a Google or Chase email looks like? I don't

I like Saunders but this is like the 20th time I've seen him interviewed about his process. I'm a little tired of it. Do recommend a swim in a pond in the rain though.

This is the type of thing that would be more effective if they focused on publicizing it and publicly pressuring the company to provide a solution that meets their needs. Once they say "bye," msft has no incentive to fix it.

This is really interesting and I think a fundamental difference between engineering and law (my profession). In the legal sphere the incentive is basically to act like everything is perfect at all times. Technically according to the law you

Very sad for anyone to go to prison in this country, which nearly never provides any healing or help.

because the prosecutors don't have good evidence of anyone actually harmed by the bad tests, and the testing agreements probably got the patients to agree if it didn't work they wouldn't rely on it.

Recently got on a Vonnegut kick. In one of the books he calls Our Town by Thornton Wilder the best play ever written. So I went and read that. He's right. It's damned good.
