I was re-reading your 'CRDTs-go-brr' blog post just today! Recently prototyping a major collaborative feature based on Automerge, and am discovering some of its performance limits on our largest data samples (25+ MB of JSON). Very

most gasoline available in the eastern USA is E10. I go out of my way to get E0 for a vintage high-performance vehicle I drive on occasion, it's noticeably happier without the ethanol, even if it can drive on E10 without damage.

I must have had a bad run of big H8 AGMs in my Jag and Volvo. I think I've replaced about one a year on average. The Jag is very subject to parasitic drain and sometimes it just didn't come back from running itself out. Did the Mi

As a current owner of a 90s Jaguar and an 05 Volvo, I've been looking at low-mileage E90 era BMWs for my next daily driver. Not too scared of moderately expensive maintenance, but would like it to be more reliable than the Volvo has be

Switching to a tented split keyboard (UHK v1) effectively saved my productivity from a really bad case of forearm tendonitis a couple of years ago. Was still typing with coldpacks on my wrists, but it was doable in a way continuing on the l

Had a brand new Seagate 2.5" hard drive fail after ~60 days of laptop use, back in 2010. I was a reasonably heavy desktop user, but scarcely a stress-tester, and I didn't have any memorable drop incident or accident that'd ex

Definitely. I'm a team lead (duties: mix of team management, project management, and some IC development), and my mentor is on the management team, and I mentor a junior dev. One of my prior mentors (as a junior dev back then) was the

I live and work within sight of the vapor plume from a major nuclear station. Visited the station (admittedly, the visitor side of the control center nowhere near the reactor) as a schoolkid. Living here doesn't worry me, and I really

it's not magical, but if Apple's 1080p camera is 'very low quality', I have plenty of experience on potato-cams to talk about, even in the previous generation. I also suspect that the design was intended for Face ID, but

Oh you can. It's just a lot more work. You can do it with paper forms, a calculator, checks, and stamps, pretty much. You just are unlikely to know/find the rules for optimal results, and the process will take a lot longer. Not a

According to Apple's press release^1, at least the M2 Pro is fabbed on a 'second generation 5nm' process. Since the power/cores/performance claims seem to be sub-linear going to the M2 Max, I'd expect it contin

Man, I wish Rosetta (or Microsoft's ARM emulation) could support AVX. I understand it might be a patent issue. It's the one significant thing keeping me from running some of the software I'd like to on my MBP.

IIRC, I remember from discussions with other scriptwriters that BTF was rejected SO many times (and he redrafted it each time, afterwards) that the version that got filmed was like v12 of the story. Very, very tight and plotted.

There are assuredly advertisers for steam-engine-adjacent products. Memorabilia, experiences/outings, conventions, models, books, artwork, games.

Ugh. I'm not planning on updating this cycle, but eSIM + physical SIM was best of both worlds for me, as a US user who travels internationally. Carriers in my most common European destination do not offer eSIM or restrict it solely to
