Just noting that this comment first only talked about the browser bundling antitrust thing, and then, after I commented, completely morphed into something else.

Hi. It does illustrate the power of the combination of time and lots of money. You can literally alter truths.

How about this for an attack? What is your current connection to the Microsoft ecosystem?

Today I learned: Asking someone their age is equivalent to doing an ad hominem attack.

Do you at all remember any market abuse, or do you only remember the good stuff? (Is this an attack? I can't tell any longer.)

> Yeah, you definitely have something against him, don't you? Well, yeah. I think we'd be at least 5 years further into the future in terms of software than we currently are, possible 10, unless he hadn't abused the market

It wasn't an attack (heck, wtf, I was just asking your age, maybe stop over-dramatizing?); I was trying to find out if you had some sort of personal experience or was just parroting the newer reddit hivemind.

You're very naive if you think that Microsoft's market abuses was limited to web browsers. This is way too non-inclusive, but at least it's something: https://www.pcmag.com/feature/302767/9-companies

I think his primary motivation is so simple.. he wants people to like him. Many, many people disliked him after his predatory business days. This is the perfect way to a) keep doing interesting work, b) getting people to like him again, c)

How old are you? Let me just guess; not old enough to have experienced living/working in tech while Bill was doing his thing. Did you ever pause to consider how much humanity would have progressed without him stopping so much progress

It's probably possible, somehow, to quantify how many americans perish every year because of this.

I don't disagree with you. Sort of related: It's a bit distressing, in away, how hard it is to access information from before like year 2007. Most of it is locked up in government reference libraries and you generally have to bona

Guess: it was perpetuated because lots of tech people hated him and what he did to the industry and to computing progress in general. He has since gotten way, way better PR handling though. Just look at the way Reddit absolutely adores h

That is.. bad, particularly since the presumed context here is about fire emergencies where speed is of the essence. Any extra steps will add delays and/or opportunities for potentially disastrous mistakes. https://motherboa

Ah.. I guess that explains why they moved my city's fire station from the city center to something closer to the nearby major highway. (Europe/Sweden though.)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrestrial_Trunked_Radio It's getting outdated though. In Sweden there's talk about a nation-wide LTE network specifically for first responders. Cheaper and better, I presume.

I doesn't sound all that unlikely to me that all these temporary UI freezes are related to the new APFS then. "How to skip converting to APFS when installing macOS High Sierra": http://osxdaily.com/2017/1

I think what's missing is to understand and adapt the speech rhythm and pauses based on the language. At first sight I would say that this requires human intuition, but then again, lots of literature is repetative, so I think ML could

With the rate speech synthesis is developing, it's probably going to be hard to distinguish between human speakers and synthetic speakers in a few years from now.

So this might be the largest scam, ever? We're talking trillions USD. (Their yearly revenue is around $200B, most of it iPhone.) (Wow, that was downvoted almost instantly.)
