It would critically depend on the frequencies used by RFID (and multipath) but perhaps it could be done by measuring the time of transit?

Those are saccades. They keep the area of interest on the most sensitive part of the retina. Trying to understand how the brain produces stable vision from such a sequence of unstable "snapshots" is an area of active research. http://en.wi

My guess is that any downvotes are because of the sarcastic tone. Sarcasm has (mercifully) never been a part of HN culture in my recollection.

_delirium's contention is simply that all brain states (even those underlying "psychological issues") have physical bases and therefore we can (theoretically) measure them. The problem is that a set of brain states may have different "cause

That's a really excellent point. Displaying other contact indicators (surface deformation?) when virtual objects come into contact with other (real or virtual) objects would probably also be beneficial.

Thanks for that. I was curious how they are getting depth information with only a single camera; it looks like they are using knowledge of the size of the users hand to infer depth.

Unless you are proposing that CS schools are not linearly rankable or that being "top" is not a unitary quantity, then the only way that I can see that the set of top US CS schools has a cardinality of four is if you are defining that axiom

Evolution contradicts the desire for smaller. This is not strictly speaking true. There are ecosystems that favor smaller animals/traits. Islands, for example.

Very apropos. Many of the worst effects of the Irish famine of 1846 can be attributed to British farm policy, such as an unwillingness to block the export of grain from Ireland after the famine started.

Is that actually the case? I'm of the impression that TMS systems 1) are audibly noisy when in use and 2) evoke activity in the scalp that can be perceived by the subject ("tingling"). Admittedly, adding sham noise would be fairly easy, but

Ah, so we simply need to match people with work "suitable" for them? Socrates also wondered about how best divide labor. He couldn't come up with a good argument, so he proposed to invent a lie: Citizens, we shall say to them in our tale,

I'm not sure if it's a metaphor. Normally, predators will eat the smaller, younger and sicker animals, leaving the larger and stronger ones to survive. So there is pressure for prey animals to get larger to escape predators and pressure for
