Same here. Running some ancient OS/software in a VM can be pretty satisfying though, especially since I don't have a whole lot of space for physical hardware. Many games wouldn't work well in a VM, of course, there's no

That anecdote applies to more than locksmiths or tech. A MacBook repair shop may replace a $0.50 transistor, but charge $200+. What you're paying for is the knowledge and experience in identifying and solving the problem. It's unf

This is a great step-up for companies using AWS here in SA. On a personal note, my latency for my personal site will drop from ~170ms (eu-west-2) to ~3ms!

I first discovered Game of Life during high school, and it got me fascinated about different cellular automata and writing software implementations of them. RIP John Conway.

It's quite easy to get System Preferences to ignore the update [0]. Ignoring Catalina isn't a long-term solution, but is pretty much a necessity for many right now. [0] https://www.macworld.com/article/3447396

One of my Computer Science lecturers had a rule: use Vim for all development for his class whilst on campus, and if caught using any other editor/IDE – or committing any artifacts showing evidence of such – we would lose several percen

This is fascinating that some manufacturers may have gone down this Darwinian path in "improving" their products. Is there any such law against this or any efforts in introducing such laws, either in Norway or elsewhere?

There are some very cool demos, such as running Doom 3 in the browser [0], but as for actual good success stories, I'd be willing to bet that many teams just haven't seriously considered it for large or involved projects due to it
