I have a three-year-old, and I think this is on the whole a great list, but I also find it very hard to believe that reading to your young kids causes them to be high academic achievers. (I think also the goal of "high academic ach

This. Think about how hard it is to figure out who is going to be a good developer, and then think about how much harder it is to figure out who is going to be a good teacher.

I very much do want to bike, but my family (and some of my bike-commuting friends) seem to think I'll get hit by a truck and are very against the idea. :P

I am starting a new job soon about 3 miles from my apartment, which is a little too far to walk. (I can walk that far, but I don't really want an hour-each-way commute.) One thing I've been considering is using Uber / Lyft

We're just lucky that this sort of boondoggle only happens in the military. Imagine how much trouble we'd be in if the rest of our government were engaged in this kind of corruption and/or ineptitude!

It's not that you can't learn rigor and critical thinking skills as an English major, it's that it's not all that hard to complete an English degree without learning those things. Hence the word "signals".

We should have been clearer that none of this is going to change with Dr. Rice’s appointment to our Board. i.e. "We should have been clearer about how this isn't what it looks like."

Why don't designers make their stacked area charts really oddly proportioned and with muddled palettes so that they're difficult to read? Oh, wait, they do!
