And if that sort of thing sounds like fun, check out the LudumDare 48-hour game making contest, just over a week away. http://www.ludumdare.com Any language/platform is welcome. I don't think anyone has been crazy enough to try to write a

I watched people playing this for about 15 minutes at GDC. Didn't try it myself and I didn't know at the time that it was 4D, thought it was just some weird xform of the world. Looked amazing but was completely unintuitive to me. I didn't g

I haven't found anything better than a written list. There's something really tactile and satisfying about crossing items off it. Every few days I rewrite the list onto the next page, drop things that are no longer relevant, expand items th

I think this is brilliant. It's not about text, it's about immediacy. video games are feedback loop between the player and this is a reminder to focus on that.

yes. It is frustrating to be able to see it happening but persist in the behavior. I haven't found the fix yet. Things that have helped me are 1) arbitrary deadlines (i.e. it ships on Apr 3 in whatever state it's in vs when it's done, it he

Kind of undercuts his argument "look I can put crap in the appstore and sell it $300" when it gets pulled.

I find protobuf easier to catch bugs, because it can catch if you're missing data or trying to put the wrong type in or leaving out a required field. There is a ascii-version that is more readable than JSON, too. That said, overall I agree

I've used this for some projects, with much success. In one case I used it as a data interchange format between a C++ app an some Python utilities. It worked very well for that and the generated API's were easy to work with, albiet a bit bu

Very impressive. This is the first example I've seen that made me think functional programming could actually work for games. I'm still not convinced but the approach described here is really neat and helps me think about the problem in a c

I think the "words with friends" model works very well. There's a free version, it's identical except that it shows a small banner add on the main menu, and shows you a full-screen ad after every move. It's not very intrusive but you can't

I voted for my favorite. Your name is a tangible noun, "top hat monocle", so there's no need to re-iterate that in the logo. Also it doesn't tell me much about the product, which is ok, but the logo could be an opportunity to communicate a

Thanks! Some features that would make this really useful: - custom colors (as mentioned by others) - an X across the image, corner to corner - Optional text instead of the size (i.e. "lead photo", "thumb") - a tag (or the resolution) repeat

This snippet presents a useful oxymoron. It's just a simple C/C++ hack, but like the best hacks, it's easy to implement and can save hours of time.

What a neat problem. I hadn't seen this before. You don't need quite that many -- you could test 2^289 (and you can probably skip many of them) and look for the "rectangle free subsets" that he mentions in the slides, and then just look for

That's a great point, and I won't even look at a new language anymore unless it has C linkage. Which Go does (as does D, OCaml, and many more...).
