Everyone ignored the "don't hard-code sizes" thing. Why not, when the only devices that exist were 480x320. I'm about to start porting my iPhone "Brainstormer" app to the iPad (along with an overhaul of the editing UI). It doesn't seem like

Where did they come up with $35k to develop an app?? That's craziness. Where do I find people willing to pay me that much?

This looks great. I cook a lot with my iPhone (just in the browser). My suggestions, with the caveat that I haven't actually tried your app yet. - Make sure there's a way to disable the "sleep/screensaver" mode. This is my biggest annoyance

Here's a link to the Epic demo in the app store (free): http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/epic-citadel/id388888815# It's pretty impressive.

Listen to the "many of people". Seriously. I've worked on a lot of video games (indie and commercial), and this is a perfect example of something that is much cooler to you (the programmer) but not to the player. You 100% need to have a pla

There is a gamecomp mailing list that sends out announcements of the LD contests. It is extremely low-traffic, basically only compo announcements (thrice yearly): visit this to subscribe. http://www.gamecompo.com/mailing-list/ The TIGSour

A great way to get started is by offering to port and package something to a different platform, or add an api/wrapper for another language. Most single developer/small group projects would be happy to have the help.

I wish I had your problem. But seriously, change your goal. Income is obviously not a good motivator anymore. Looking for a way to do what you used to enjoy doing do competitively can be motivating, or perhaps doing it as a way of artistic

The problem in your thinking is that you say "it can eventually bottom out by returning NULL". But you don't tell the compiler that. You have to end the recursion somewhere. Fortunately, you can just use an equivalent type. typedef void^(^f

Try to refute yourself mentally before you speak. If you can argue on both sides of a topic, then you aren't really sure. The best way to proceed when you're not sure is to ask the others. Don't say, "The internet is made of turtles," inste

This is a good idea and I wish you luck with it. Another great way to build your portfolio is to approach local non-profits and ask to volunteer to make web apps or website improvements for them. There is almost always a way to make a big d

People tend to overestimate short-term revenue, and underestimate long-term revenue. It will probably take you much longer than you think to get 200 users, but if you stick with it and your idea is good, you'll end up with more than you eve

We used to have these at my workplace. It was terrible. But still better than the drip they had. One guy would open and dump like 20 of the vacuum packed capsules into the drip machine, and we'd have the only decent pot for a week.

This isn't a resume or CV, it's a list of requirements for a potential employer. The actual 'resume' part was poorly formatted and overlong. It would be much better if the resume was in code, that would be a cute gimmick. (i.e. self.knowsLa

Another cheaper option is a standing desk with a high office chair. I used one of these for about two years and it did make a positive difference. You can stand or sit and it costs no more than a regular desk. (My workplace uses desks from

I love those writeroom style apps. (I use WriteRoom on mac, and Q10 on windows). I also wrote my own free writing-motivator software: http://code.google.com/p/write-attack/ If this kind of app is the "carrot" approach, write-attack is the
