I agree that Anandtech serves a niche market, but I feel like most other review sites kind of serve the same niche, but more poorly. What I mean is that a gadget reviewer's experience is so far different from a normal consumer's as to be al

That's still deception. Seems obvious to me that the reason search engines would penalize sites that put up real data behind firewalls is because users don't want to see them in their search results. To show search engines different data

It's also what makes the OS-level back button so important, which full-time iOS users seem not to understand when they cursorily try an Android phone. ( http://daringfireball.net/linked/2011/10/31/android-hardware ) I agree with this thread

The point that Winer was making was that Kottke once stood up for him (Winer) in the face of bullies, and here, he seems to be joining in the bullying instead. I suppose Gruber is just a small, mean-spirited bully of whom Winer has no speci

I totally disagree. The old social functions were totally opaque, irrational, and hard to control. The new system allows you to share with select groups, or publicly, in a very granular way. Just because you got used to an old, broken way o

It's crazy to me the amount of grousing about the Google Reader cheese-moving. The old system was an opaque, user-antagonistic, hacked-on mess. The new system (integration with +) is rational and a superset of the old system, as far as I ca

Seems to me that the medium is different enough that you'd generally want games specifically developed for the TV, rather than a straight port of a phone game, anyway.

The interesting thing Disqus brings to the table IMO is a persistent identity across sites. And, broadly, I think this is good in that it fights the inherent hierarchical structure of any commenting system. Ultimately, though, the concept o

This doesn't change the fact that she has to talk out loud. I don't like to take personal calls at work, either. I usually go out into the hall or somewhere more private. I don't think this is rare behavior.

That's definitely another issue too. My wife has specifically said that she doesn't like to do that, even in semi-private (e.g. work), because she doesn't necessarily want to say stuff about her private schedule out loud, or broadcast her n

I'm skeptical about Siri. My wife got an iPhone 4S on opening weekend, and we both did the requisite amount of playing with the new feature, and it was amusing, but after the first couple of days she pretty much abandoned it. There are some

I'm not sure I agree about the necessity of building this into a tv. I have an ATV2, and the TV just stays on that input, generally. This would be more true if there were more content apps. Also, my TV goes to sleep when the ATV does. So I

It's complicated, though. I think there's probably at least a bit of selection bias at work. There are plenty of cyclists who take traffic laws as seriously as drivers. But you're not going to notice them as much. And, here, in Portland, it

I think it's partly a failure of designers to communicate what they can do. I do understand how hard this can be; my wife is a product designer, sometimes for tech products. As I said before, I'm hopeful about both Microsoft and Google. The
