I can think of a handful of things that it might be nice or convenient for someone to be able to access (subscription services and whatnot), but I agree that it seems legally unwise to encourage anyone to try to log into my financial accoun

Does this explain the proliferation of "Salesforce Towers" around the world? I have not been convinced they actually need that much office space.

Well then I'm just confused about what you were talking about if "they killed the user experience of their catalogues in the move away from cards and terminals" doesn't refer to card catalogs....

Many people move to the suburbs nominally so that their kids can safely walk, bike, and play in the streets. Obviously the actual built environment of the suburbs doesn't remotely support this supposed goal, but the idea that suburbs &

This is a genuinely bizarre point of view. Your nostalgia for the card catalog is shared by approximately nobody, least of all anyone whose job it would be to update and maintain it.

Your library would very likely love to have both, but the cost of providing eBooks is such that for systems whose budgets are shrinking, it often does mean choosing one over the other. The decision to eliminate a print collection is unfortu

I was at Seattle Central Library twice recently and the only problem I had with it was I thought the aluminum flooring was noisy in places. Other than that, it was a very pleasant visit: bright, quiet, staff were engaging.

Public libraries have no such duty, no. Outside of the largest systems, most aren't fit to do this in a way that would materially achieve the goal of preserving anything, either in terms of space, equipment, or expertise. So generally

It seems misguided to assume people bringing their children to work is because they don't know any better and haven't been educated properly rather than because they have no other choice.

You would never be asked to pay $100 for a trip from JFK to Manhattan--unless you're in an Uber! NYC taxi pricing is more transparent and more predictable than Uber. Until recently the fares were printed on the cars .

A high-quality wifi card and software is more valuable to me than ethernet ports, which are so bulky that I don't especially care if they come built in. The Framework approach here is ideal.

The "EyeSight" feature has weird implications for how Apple thinks this thing should be used. I'm not really sure I love the idea of making it "easier" for someone to leave the goggles on while interacting with me.
