I indent religiously, and I comment, but I use a lot of static site generator-type software and I've yet to find one that doesn't completely ruin the indentation in the output, even with the various kinds of HTML-prettify plugins.

She said something about Mark I being the first such computer in the United States, but I think the gist is true anyway, that people employed at least in the practical aspects of computing at that time were learning a lot as they went along

eBook lending licenses as brokered by the companies that provide this service to libraries (e.g. Overdrive) usually restrict the number of "copies" of an eBook that can be loaned at one time, and patrons often have to put themselv

The biggest problem with this I see (beyond the general creepiness of it and the huge impression I get that this is less about privacy and more about wanting to preemptively micromanage your kid’s potential future “brand”) is the futility o

A teenager in (again) Virginia was shot and killed by an off-duty cop working as a security guard who thought he (the teen) would hit him with a car after the kid stole pancakes. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con

"[S]omething bigger..." eh? That's conveniently non-specific. All I can do is echo the other comments, that regardless of whether or not something "bigger" is going on, the response is absolutely disproportionate, a

I can't recall ever being in a car with power windows that would work with the car completely turned off (key out of the ignition). You can turn the key backward or partially forward in most cars just to engage the battery and operate

As I understand it, "subvocalization" usually refers to the voice in your head that you experience when you read, so the parent post may have been actually making this claim, albeit inadvertently.

Huge YMMV on this one, obviously. I don't feel particularly moved to believe that you can know whether or not you're having more fun than someone else and "getting more memories" out of an occasion because you forgo the chore of taking phot

Assuming the declaration is true, great job! There's a "but", though: I get a (rather ugly) 404 error if I click on my state without selecting a country first. It wasn't obvious to me that I had to select United States in the first dropdown

Nope, Windows Vista. FF Nightly also moves forward and back in the history with Shift + Scroll Wheel. Chrome Canary does what you say, though, with horizontal scrolling.

I just did this (on FF 20) and it flipped through my history (scroll down = Back, scroll up = Forward). A heretofore unknown feature, but not the one you said it would be. ;)

Ems and percents behave differently when a user changes the browser's font size setting (which I think you only see in IE now), but are otherwise the same. Other than that the only advantage is in the fact that ems are a standard convention
