The best practices of private networks, updated software and being conservative when exposing ports to a public network everyone knows already. Also no need to be that scared about servers.

This is a solved problem, and dependency hell happen when not choosing dependencies wisely when creating programs.

Reading this made me remember that back in the day the AWS selling point was "here you can create virtual machines with few clicks and have it instantly instead of waiting 30 min for you colocated server to be ready" but now it se

I hope this "risk aversion" mindset starts to apply to code as well. Can't wait for codeless, zero code, nocode, whatever name it gets called... something where normal people can build their own ideas without having meaningle

> No. Microsoft is attempting to rebase Linux on to Windows. Exactly https://www.theregister.com/AMP/2020/09/15/microsoft_submits... It is not the first time it happens and people keep buying into it.

Anytime. I saw you are already implementing some ideas from my inputs, that is great, please keep it going. Eventually, in notorious systems, you may face issues of having too many /32 rules, a good idea is to implement some mechanism

Nope nope nope. This has serious quality issues and any competent and nice sysadmin should say _nope_ to run this in any serious environment, for your own good ;-) IP addresses are just strings? At least parse/validate for IPv4/IP

Basically the outcome of the "I prefer to take the bait than to learn the simplicity of Linux" mentality. Nowadays everything is 10-20x more complicated and expensive than it should be compared to 10 years ago.

Try again, you will be surprised how things are more simple than it looks like. Practice, practice, until it clicks. Give yourself some time in between too. It is all about the fun.

For me k8s kinda extends what you can do with ansible. For example, if you use just kubelet (the main daemon) without the api, drop some static yaml files (ala unit files) under /etc/kubernetes it will be something like systemd is

IMHO the ideal workflow for me is: write -> test -> install. Nothing more than that. Perhaps the complexity increase when we start giving funny names for simple things, opinions, personal preferences... Countless hours can be wasted

K8s is a nice api on top of gnu/linux. Want a iptables rule? Write a yaml (network policy). Want a storage for you app? Write a yaml (persistent volume) etc etc. For people who already know Linux, kubernetes comes naturally because it

Kubernetes is getting popular because it is a no-brainer api to existing things like firewall, virtual ip, process placement, etc. It's basically running a big computer without even trying.
