I seriously doubt Apple would take such a big step as switch cpu architecture, if they didn’t already know how to make the first few cpu generations. That would be way too risky. If I were Tim, I would have needed a 5-10 year detailed road

There also seem to be general problems with objects disappearing when they are obscured by other objects, and then reappear later, when no longer obscured. It is ridiculous, that the model doesn’t keep track of objects, and assume they cont

I heard Jim Keller (the chip-designer) say this (or something similar) recently in a podcast with Lex Fridman. It is at the 24.40 mark in "Jim Keller: The Future of Computing, AI, Life, and Consciousness | Lex Fridman Podcast" h

By that reasoning, shouldn’t the fastest living beings move around on wheels instead of legs? Just because something works for evolution/nature, it doesn’t mean that there isn’t a simpler/better engineering alternative. We have sp

Jobs was focused on vision and product design. Cook is on operations and execution -- it also shows in his presentations. He follows the relatively safe "Apple-formula" that was put in place in the 2000s. Even the transition to Ap

It is about picking a safer and possibly better alternative costing a few weeks delay. In Denmark, at least among the people I talk to, there isn't much confidence in AZ. The feeling is that Moderna or Pfizer are safer with higher prot

The M1 Tensorflow-branch doesn't use Neural Engine (ANE). However, it does use the M1-GPU. The M1 GPU is about 1/3 the speed of a 1080TI card when looking at OpenCL score in Geekbench, but may perform faster than that in some case

Yes, that's the M1X rumor, but that isn't going to be enough to compete with high-end CPUs in iMac and Mac Pros. For those, we have the 32-core rumor (but that is a massive die). And doubling the M1-GPU will not be enough to even

I wonder what they'll do for "M1X" and pro-machines? Seems like heat isn't an issue, so can they increase the clock-speed of the M1? And will they create a larger die with 2xGPU and 2xCPUs, or will they "stitch"

The M1 gpu is able to do 2.5 tflops while 1080 is said to be able to do 8 tflops. From Geekbench it also looks like the m1 gpu is about 1/4-1/3 as powerful as a 1080. The m1 may benefit from faster ram and shared memory though. Ap

The current M1 has 4 firestorms. Geekbench gives a score of ~7400 for the M1s. Assuming the firestorms represent some 80% of the CPU power and multiplying by 6 (6x4=24), we would get a Geekbench score around 35000. That would place it betwe
