I did it (3 FAANGs). I also did it once before with my then-current employer and two other companies. You have to stall the urgent folks and push the slow ones. It did take a lot of burning vacation time.

I had 3 FAANG offers. There are so many ways to screw this up. IMHO, the article’s advice is spot-on.

It isn’t just caffeine though. I drink plenty of non-coffee caffeine, with little effect. As soon as I drink coffee, I have to go within 15 minutes.

I've written an ASN.1 parser. The problem isn't the specification (though it is definitely a kitchen sink spec). The problem is the majority of ASN.1 code was written before the year 2000. ASN.1 started in 1984. That means there

And they just declared aspartame, the most widely studied food additive in the last 40 years, as possibly carcinogenic. When you declare essentially everything to be carcinogenic, then you lose credibility, as WHO has done several times no

This is not a big data problem. This isn’t even a small data problem. Bus routes can be figured out with a paper and pencil in a few hours. I can’t possibly understand the level of incompetence required to get this wrong. Bus drivers don’t

It seems these are all structural problems that Japan can address directly. Universal child care, family leave might help. Still, I look at the generation younger than me in the US and see them in the same spot. We’d already be in their si

For the same reason you don’t brush 10 times a day. It isn’t significantly more effective than once a week and we all have better things to do.

NIST recommended getting off SMS in 2016. I’d say 7 years is plenty of time that folks really shouldn’t be using it. https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2016/08/nist_is_no_lo...

At the current FAANG I work for, managers are so consumed by organizational overhead that there’s plenty of room for IC (ie staff engineer) to influence direction. Not sure if this applies at the VP level.

It isn’t any different than buying Nike, Gucci, or Michael Kors. Many folks are extremely brand and status conscious. Appearing high status is more important than many other expenses.

I did a CRM bake off for a startup about 5 years ago. It is a super crowded market, probably the most crowded SaaS market in the world. There are even a half dozen open source CRMs. Good luck.

This makes me want to bake again. If you haven’t baked a cake from scratch, you really should, at least once. At minimum, it will provide some perspective when you see a $15 cake for sale at the grocery store.
