I'm not on Matt's side, but anyone has the right to fork a GPL project and call it something else.

Yeah some deprecated C API stuff just got removed, so it might take me, a package maintainer, to catch up.

The social obligations that people have are not the same obligations that businesses have with each other, and that is true culturally and legally. There are no consumer protection laws for businesses. There is no cooling off period for cer

I had an interesting experience in the ER lately that caused me to do some research. The average ER wait time across DC was 5 hours and 29 minutes. That's across all hospitals.

LMDB Python maintainer here. 0.9.70 is not really the latest release. It isn't binary compatible with official "releases" though it has sneaked out in a few bindings. Latest is 0.9.31.

I walked into the local convenience store the other day and it dawned on me that it exists solely to serve addictions. Nicotine addiction? Cigarettes and vapes galore. Sugar/fat addiction? Dozens of options. Gambling addiction? Multip

It is 100-1000 times harder to find application-level security bugs than it is to find memory safety bugs. It is also far easier to apply formal analysis to code if you don't have to model arbitrary pointers. Android has hard evidence

Java and Kotlin are used for apps. Rust is used for new system software. Across Google, Go is used for some system software, but I haven't seen it used in Android.

As attacks go, this is far more targeted than most dropped bombs. The purpose is to disable the communication infrastructure. That's a valid military target. To be clear, I'm not saying this is a good thing. It does seem to fit wi

Sikuli was at least a decade ahead of its time. It was slow; I just threw bigger computers at it. My use case was complicated. I was testing HSM-like workflows across multiple hosts using native UIs. It worked really well.

I froze the report, and I also told my employer not to report anything to Equifax (which luckily my employer allows). This made getting approved for a mortgage more difficult. These days, loan officers just expect to be able to hit a button

And why is that? It isn't for DRM (the game is free). It is for anti-cheat, and it is great. The libertarian maximalist i-can-do-what-i-want-with-my-computer ignore the many use cases where I want to trust something about someone else&

Simply put, UK needs more companies run by software folks. Only software folks respect other software folks enough to pay them well.

This is of course hogwash. "Ethena provides generous equity in addition to cash compensation, but the details of equity are a bit trickier to make public." Publishing a formula for half your comp isn't useful.

About a decade ago, I had success using a computer vision package for UI E2E testing. It was called Sikuli. This seems like Sikuli taken to the next level.

It has been a few years, but last time I looked, they were the obvious choice for the cost-conscious build-your-own-server market. The HP/Dell markup for servers is insane.

Figure skating is evidence that one can "train" one's vestibular system to ignore the mixed signals. Now that I think of it, an anti-nausea VR training program would be excellent to treat motion sickness.

FYI, the multiply assert isn't guaranteed to work and can be compiled out by a sufficiently smart compiler. Overflow of signed values is UB, the compiler can assume that UB is impossible, therefore the expression in the if resolves to

That's the 2 trillion ton kid fallacy (a joke on Twitter of a guy holding up his infant son and projecting forward his growth rate). The birthrate will change dramatically after a few generations of low growth.
