Most of the effort has been done in design. Rotating mass of generators is a nice self-correcting system, also the frequency is a near-zero latency signaling mechanism across the entire grid. Each participant can measure it and make indepen

Is it? How often do you experience outages? It needs maintenance but it's incredibly reliable and resilient if you zoom back a bit.

I would warmly recommend everyone to read The Power Broker[0] to get a tiny glimpse into how innocuous things in different laws get planted and combined into getting wildly different outcomes from public perception. It's also gotten wa

> It would be dumb for him to do anything that… I admire you but these days dumb is kinda the norm. Look at the other Sam for example. Really hard to keep your mouth shut and do smart things when you think really highly about yourself.

Grids have many-many consumers and many generators. So switching on a single AC does not have a noticeable effect. There are however correlated events like the famous East Enders peak in the UK (daily TV show at the end of which a large num

Frequency and phase difference are indicators of grid balance. Grid itself can't store energy, the generation and consumption needs to be in balance. If transmission balance goes out of whack more electrons want to flow to specific pla

Good instinct. There is a site that measures frequency in several places in Europe and shows the phase difference. [0] The phase difference is not really about distance it's more about energy flows, where it's lagging there more p

Silicon for solar panels has to be 99.999999 percent pure—six 9s after the decimal. Computer chips are even more demanding. Their silicon needs to be 99.99999999999 percent pure—eleven 9s.

Zeke Faux’s book Number go up has a couple of chapters on scammers who are actually themselves victims of human trafficking in Cambodia. Some of the scammers in the original video sound Nigerian to me, not sure what the situation is there.

The small diesels like VW Polo etc have resistive heaters as otherwise it would take too long for comfort to heat up the cabin. Also don't forget that seat heaters are also resistive and most cars in cold climates have them.
