Great paper. I'm familiar with it, and I think it's one of the initiatives out there pointing in the right direction. Same as Prolog and SQL. But we still have to work a long way in that direction for it to pay off nicely in our day to day!

You are right, and I think you've found one of the weak spots. But I do think that can be treated, and the advantages of the programming-ease will be a good trade-off in many cases with the lost control for efficiency. It's like the switch

I will look at the project, sounds interesting. If it's like that, I can only I know declarative doesn't solve the problem of correctness. It's really difficult to define correctness per se! But what such an approach really gains is that yo

Sure, sorry, didn't mention on the article, Prolog is the closest thing that exists, although I think Prolog commits at least one cardinal sin that breaks the really great properties (/cut/) and it just doesn't get deep enough.

Might be. Hopefully not. I have done a huge amount of programming though, so it's not like the reflection comes from ignorance. Under the mess of spaghetti code that anything out there is now, I see a clean structure of code trying to come

Reg, thanks so much for your comment. I'm really happy you appreciate the value. It's very interesting that you put the focus in the descriptive language. I've been working on that for a long time. It's not finished, but some areas are clar

OP here. It's not just Prolog, but indeed Prolog is the closest thing now.

I don't think so. You don't get that smoothness with HTML5.

The initial design of WhatsApp was as an app to share your status. Only later did they add messaging. Which is the functionality that actually made them take off. But they've never removed the statua part, even though nobody uses it.

Replying to this, but directed to the original authors: don't make it $20, it's too cheap for a product like this, make it $49 and plenty of people will still pay for it. I'm assuming you will be offering a WP template as the output (nobody

Thanks! It's similar, but it also builds & submits the custom-branded client app to the app-stores. Indeed, it can work with any CMS or HTML-creation pipeline. It's one of the great strengths of the model. Will have a look at Tapatalk,

Phonegap allows you to embed a standard HTML5 web site/page/app into a native "shell", for running on iPhone/Android and submitting to the app-stores. It also includes some advanced APIs for device access. The app you interact with is actua

OP here. After my previous two "solo" projects (ViEmu and Codekana), I started Mouin some time ago, now with a co-founder and with a great team of hackers. We hope to provide a great alternative to building native mobile apps without losing

This guy is wrong, plain and simple. Unforeseeable bit-copying errors caused by cosmic rays and similar circumstances, which do exist, probably account for less than a one out of every billion actual bugs/crashes experienced out there. When

With regards to selling software online, they are on the low end of the scale. His methods and communication are definitely top of the scale though.

People thinking about doing startups do need views from different perspectives. The article is exactly that. It's not a moan, it's a pragmatic view from someone who drank the koolaid and is now seeing the reality, and shares it. It's probab

Yes, back in 1994. "Lenguaje Ensamblador de los 80x86", which means "80x86 Assembly Language", published by Anaya (major Spanish publisher). It's now out of print, but there were over 20 reprints and it was pretty successful, was recommende

I don't think liking Zeppelin, Floyd, etc... is a sure indicator of good taste, at least in the way Glass refers to it. Appreciating something regardless of fashion / mob taste would be a better indicator in this case. Having liked Pink Flo

Nope. The common usefulness is to determine whether a given computation-describing system reaches the threshold of universal computability. Modulo finite size is assumed, else there is no usefulness of the concept given finite resources. Fo

I agree with the general point. For your example: on windows I use " yy and " p. You can set "* as default in vimrc and just use yy and p though (don't remember it off the top of my head, I can check it if you want, I use windows though)

Even if VCs target at a 10x sale, they definitely take offers to sell at a much lesser multiple. They target at 10x so that with their spread of total-failures/so-sos/big-exits they end up making a nice return.
