Feel free to "reblog" a link to the GIF, but it would be best to link to the containing page: http://www.viemu.com/a_vi_vim_graphical_cheat_sheet_tutorial.html You can blog an image hotlinking to the cheatsheet inside a link that poi

Thanks! Indeed $99 is a bit pricey, but many think it's well worth it, and it's a niche. ViEmu had its 5th anniversary this year, and I'm hoping for the next five, still better years (both for ViEmu and Codekana, http://www.codekana.com ).

You're very welcome! I'm an ex-games dev myself, so I know what you're talking about - and I can very barely believe that you only use it 6 hours a day in that industry :)

I don't think that's good advice for a newbie. To the OP: practice, practice and practice. It will take a long time. Months to start getting it, years to go anywhere. 10+ years to be good. If it's too hard, choose another profession. 99% of

Hacker News is starting to feel like programming.reddit.com a year ago. Now, Reddit is getting more and more like Digg a year before that. Digg certainly looks like Youtube comments one year before. Now, Youtube, that surely is now just l

This was my best answer to the question, written 4 years ago, hope it helps: http://www.viemu.com/a_vi_vim_graphical_cheat_sheet_tutorial... I also prepare this write up answering "Why vi?": http://www.viemu.com/a-why-vi-vim.html They'v

Patrick, incredibly spot-on and valuable, as always. Thanks. In my experience with ViEmu and Codekana, recommendations by highly respected bloggers are what help sales the most. In most areas, there already is a "network of trust" out there

He should publish them as a book. I loved the last chapter of his start-up guide: "Title: how to hire a CEO for your start-up. Body: Just don't. If there's no one among the founders who can be CEO, leave ASAP." It would be awesome if he sta

I don't think "self-replication" is the key of life as our empathy would understand it. Killing a sterile person doesn't deserve punishment?

Obviously, if the simulation says "daddy? where am i?", then they've succeeded. What I argue is that the method they are using is like putting monkeys to bang on a typewriter, but they are promoting it as "the next Shakespeare".

As far as I remember, they were recreating the network based on pure statistical properties. It's completely possible, if not likely, that the network they are simulating lacks the actual properties that give our brain its capabilities. I s

My actual scheme is similar in some ways to what you describe. More complex, because it involves many different types of structures. Also, my approach is more explicit, I don't "restart a parse" in a general way, as I contemplate each possi

Thanks for the compliment! Actually, I'd think it's probably due to writing the article "after the fact", rather than to good writing. The proper approach to a problem seems so obvious once you know it...

Obviously we're discussing faith and intuition here, as none of us has the facts. I don't think there is anything computationally irreducible in the brain. About some component not being expressible as the result of simpler computations: th

But I think that the problem is that it was harder than it seemed, but that doesn't mean it's not doable. Developers are always optimistic when estimating how long it will take to do something they (we) want to do.

Thanks for the kind comment. Nowadays, my products are my source of funding, so no chance to open source anything. In the future, I'm sure some things will make their way into more open forms (not totally sure about what form). Every comp

I plan to add indentation support to my system in the future... it's a very interesting area: gathering information from all available sources and using that to help the user. I do believe using the history of edits, as the article describe

Maybe it's obvious just to me? There will be full AI. We will create artificial brains. We will fully understand how the parallel system in the brain works. We will create brains more powerful than ours. I don't think it's that far,

I'm the author of the article. I was aware of the research you link to. I enjoyed it, but research is too often focused on the formal side and too little on the user-experience side. I even mention it succintly in the article (not by name):

I use Plimus ( http://www.plimus.com ) for ViEmu and Codekana sales ( http://www.viemu.com and http://www.codekana.com ). It's very good, and the price is good, too. I used to use share-it ( http://www.shareit.com/ ) for a few years, but
