Why not give me a nice big mbox file with all my emails in it as well? That's honestly the main thing that Google has that I care about preserving.

The latest builds of Firefox and Chrome both work fine on XP, so they could theoretically force users to upgrade away from IE altogether.

Your post highlights the core of the problem. Ultimately, productivity solutions have to include a recognition that technology can only enhance your self-control; it can't replace it. I, like you, have spent days trying to optimize my work

Unfortunately, the range of a single computer is very limited, and an ad-hoc wifi network requires that all computers be in range of one another. What you would really need to do is create a mesh network, where each host relays messages to

Give it time. At some point in the not so distant future, we could all be using smartphones that just have data plans. Then we'll get to see if SMS sticks around.

If the OS is intelligent, the memory doesn't get overwritten until it is needed. Even if an app is completely closed and its process is killed, doesn't it's image still hang around in memory for the next time it is run?

I'm going to nitpick a little bit about the Arduino. Just to be clear, I won an Arduino and love it, but the article misrepresents it a little bit. It states that the Arduino is a microcontroller. This is false. From the Arduino website: &#

It's not a perfect solution, but it certainly beats passing around big hostfiles mapping hosts to addresses.

The $999 model seems to come equipped with a 1.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo. Any ideas why they didn't use the newer i series CPUs? Don't they have better performance per watt?

Some of the Windows information on Git from this article is outdated. I use TortoiseGit on Windows regularly. It handles all the common cases for me very well. For the uncommon cases, it comes packaged with Bash for Windows, so I can use Gi

I'm not really sure what I would use this for. It's nice to have DNS for a box at home, but those aren't usually on a static IP. If my IP is dynamic, I'd probably go with a service like DynDNS which keeps my DNS record updated as the IP add

This is precisely the type of content that shouldn't be here on HN. Sure, it's funny, but it doesn't help to facilitate intelligent discussion or add value other than humor.

So they want web developers to create an opt-out option on each web site? That's completely redundant. The people who don't care are going to ignore the option (or click ok on the popups if it comes to that), and the people who do care prob
