Speaking of all this, on my windows 11 machine I get McAfee popups, and for the life of me, I can't track down where they come from or how to turn them off. My son has a windows 10 machine and has the same problem. Why does Microsoft p

One thing I like about Bank of America is their app and website are both really good. I have another account with a small bank and I continually have problems with the website being janky.

I don't think so, especially for StackOverflow. I want correct answers, not answers that just look correct.

I keep hearing about how in the US enrollment is going to drop in a few years when the kids (not) born during the great recession of 2008-2010 hit college age. Interesting to see how that will play out with this administrative bloat.

I love the "Show HN: $X created by ChatGPT" We need people seeing what useful things can be done with this new hammer, things that haven't occurred to us yet.

It can generate a bunch of stuff automatically. What we need is the ability to test that stuff automatically, so we can close the generate-and-test loop. If we can test automatically, we can then have this thing hillclimb to usefulness. I m

World state for AI. Although, the "VM" created by ChatGPT in another article seems like it does a surprisingly good job of maintaining state.

I usually love his writing, and maybe I haven't had enough coffee today, but this didn't make any sense to me at all. I don't see any relation between AI and crypto. He does a great job in a previous essay of talking about th

People say you should manage your own data. That's great until you have to demonstrate compliance with security regulations. If I'm a big cloud provider, the more regulations and requirements there are the better it is for my busi

Everyone agrees it is a terrible system. The high prices are because many people cannot pay, and the wait is because many people have no where else to go. We just can't seem to get from our system to a better one, but it's not bec

Yeah, but you wait and fill out paperwork even if you are paying. Clearly, we need to improve things.

I don't leave the house much, but on the Austin subreddit, people are talking about this all the time. Enforcement seems down and wild driving is up.

Let's try to have a more nuanced discussion. My sister is an ER doctor in the US; we don't turn people away. Clearly, we need a better healthcare system, but it's not because the US is narcissistic.

This seems worrisome. Sure, don't destroy a new PhD student giving their first talk in front of everyone for sport, but open and constructive criticism is the long conversation that moves science forward.

It's the Chinese room but it is effective because the game space is relatively small (compared to the real world) and you can cover that space with RL guiding NLP language generation.

Thinking about my own comment, maybe there is something special about parking lots being especially ugly. Maybe they are thinking about this more in terms of beatification zoning than electricity policy.

It makes sense, but why can't they provide economic incentives so people naturally do what's best? Maybe some plan to buy electricity from urban surfaces, which will include car parks? With the current plan, people will throw up c

The small inventor is supposed to monetize a patent by building something useful for society. That's the whole deal. The patent itself shouldn't have value beyond protecting that path.
