I dislike right-wing silliness as much as anyone, but this whole hate against Texas is just weird. We had Montana winter weather for a week and our grid went down. I had a business partner in California during a period a few years back and

Actually, touch sensors is what it needs. This is illustrated by wearing gloves. It's surprising how hard it is to manipulate objects without good touch sensors.

Right. You have to represent it as something that can write code/graphs. I say a little bit here https://www.jonathanmugan.com/WritingAndPress/presentations/...

Yeah, you could. Or you could search for shapes of different parts that would maximize the engine efficiency. The goal is to simultaneously build a representation space and a simulator so that anything that could be represented could be sim

The goal is to enable it to model the world at different levels of abstraction based on the question it wants to answer. You can model car as an object that travels fast and carries people, or you can model it down to the level of engine pa

I believe in search, but it only works if you have an appropriate search space. Chess has a well-defined space but the everyday world does not. The trick is enabling an algorithm to learn its own search space through active exploration and

My impression is that people want colorful cars, it's just that for some reason they aren't being produced. Maybe its like aisle airline seats. I saw for Volkswagen that to get a nice color you had to upgrade.

Thanks for your response. I think I would even rather it be a limited subset of Python. But I seem to be in the minority here. Cool work!

Yeah, that's basically my objection. The convenience seems to hide something important. I know you can write any program with LISP, but using LISP for this kind of thing seems to be a symptom of limited applicability.

To me, they don't sound the same. Certainly both flirty and fun; I can't imagine getting much work done with an assistant that chatty.

Yeah, I don't get this at all. I don't have a donkey in this fight, but it seems to me that 1. They wanted to build the experience from the movie Her. 2. They wanted to use Johansson's voice because that would be a cool tie-i

I want to filter out all non-nature sounds. I dream of walking through the airport or the park in peace. AI seems the way to go with that since you have to predict the sound to counteract it. Good to see we are finally making progress.

It seems to me that we are not as good at recognizing tradeoffs as we used to be. We used to have discussions where we would point out that more X is good but it would have the downside of less Y, but now we just yell "More X!" at

It's funny, I can't make myself practice the talk out loud, but I can make myself go through it mentally a bunch of times. On the last mental pass, I guess what the next slide will be. Being able to do that enables smooth transiti

I didn't see UMLS in the paper, but I've tried some of their human-created biomedical knowledge graphs, and they were too full of errors to be used. I imagine different ones have different levels of accuracy.

Funny though, if it was considered primary medical in the US I bet it would be a lot more expensive. I'm always surprised that dental care prices seem justifiable based on the services I received.

It just means that LLMs are an interpolation of everything on the internet. They would seem less like they have a point of view or an opinion on things.

That's a good point. If there is some mechanism to keep them for two weeks. I'm not sure how that works. Another advantage is that it gives them a chance to reevaluate things once sober.

You can't really fine people who are in that state. You can, but it won't be a deterrent. I don't know what the answer is.

I wonder if achieving that balance is somehow surprisingly hard. I'm sure the police could do better, but prosecuting a crime is a big deal with lots of steps involved. Its seems not quite natural to apply that process to something lik

Or what if you only want to pay taxes for the part you are squatting on? You could imagine thousands of acres of a ranch and you only want to pay taxes on the back corner.

Paying the taxes is a very clear bar. That makes sense. I know when I was either buying or selling my last house in Texas I had to sign all these papers that there were no squatters anywhere. Maybe in Texas the bar isn't so clear.
