You can think of your home as a literal black box. In this case a black box radiator. If the police are unable to look at the emissions, because they could reveal illegal activity, then why can they look at energy usage, which is a proxy fo

Police used to use airplane based thermal imaging looking for homes which were abnormally warm, back before LEDs. Kyllo v. United States Went to the Supreme Court and found this as a “search”. “Where, as here, the Government uses a device t

Thanks for the link. Is it difficult to find just DC powered Air Conditioning units? What’s different? Any concerns about intermittent running? Clouds or partial shading of panels from leaves? Should such a device include a super capacitor

I gave ChatGPT a PDF of an academic paper and asked it to create an OpenSCAD program which replicated the paper’s design - knocked it out. Did it have issues? of course.

The only reason I periodically want a Windows PC is because Office is better on Windows than Mac… and gaming. Whoever decided to nerf the Mac Office version, probably helped Microsoft make a few extra billion.

I want a solar powered greenhouse in AZ, where the solar panels are used solely to run an AC unit, keeping temps down during the day - without using inverters or batteries. With some large water barrels in the greenhouse, it should maintain

I liked OpenSCAD, but I couldn’t figure out how to do anything very advanced… until the LLMs became good. Now the LLMs are great at guiding me on rather complex projects. If I were going to do it again, I’d probably learn solidworks. They h

I can’t wait for this to be available at similar prices for a single family home. Add in solar and a relatively small propane powered backup generator (harbor freight) for extended outages, and for $15k I could be completely off grid. Yes t

I found a TikTok which showed rice in a Japanese Costco. A calrose variety American grown rice (Legrande Family rice) in the Japanese Costco was 2998 yen for 5KG. Must be tariffs causing the price to be so high.

I can buy rice at Costco in the US for $25 for 50lbs, which is equivalent to 854 yen for 5KG. A bit less than 1/4 the cost of Japanese grown rice.

This is a question about the first amendment. Is the government making rules in favor of one religion over, anyone else? Bob, an atheist, is allowed to run arbitrary wires around midtown manhattan, just the same as some other group?

One is a paid version where Tesla opts to drive safer, and if you don’t pay then Tesla is allowed to drive more dangerously? Seems like a jury would question why Tesla would allow a version that is known to be less safe.
