A React app can be written in 2023 the same exact way it was written in 2016. You don't need to use hooks. React has literally barely changed at all since its creation. Hooks are a choice. Function components are a choice.

About 5 years ago I made a blog post detailing how to use Traefik/LE with PHP. For about one day, I realized I had my personal email in the template for the warning email for when the Lets Encrypt cert is expiring. I still get emails w

No no, this just means I think the HTTP semantics are overkill, and a simple GET/POST gets across everything that I need to.

What language and/or framework doesnt have this problem? - Ruby - if your Ruby/Rails app falls behind, you will be paying back debt to get it up to date - PHP - if your Laravel/CI/Cake/Slim/Symphony App falls b

Am I the only one around here who hates the whole PUT PATCH nonsense? When I write APIs, you’re either querying data with a GET, or mutating data with a POST. Everything else is a waste of time.

Google Trends has literally nothing to do with twitter succeeding or failing as a business. Literally nothing. If twitter went offline, it would be skyrocketing in Google Trends, does that mean twitter is successful then? Also: https:/

Interesting, recently the Android TV app started to do the same thing for me. It logs me out of my server every day.

Curious why you are contributing here? Arguably, Hacker News is a lot of an echo chamber too. What’s the point to get your “2c” heard on Hacker News? Hacker News users are even more of a minority than Redditors.

I think this just depends on what style of learner you are. Me, I am definitely an audio learner. In school, I just needed to listen to the teacher say something once, and as long as I was paying attention during that, it would stick with m

A healthy amount of skepticism is good. You can easily take your skepticism too far and turn into a tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist who doesnt believe anything and has a completely cynical view on the world. I know a few of these...

On one hand, I’m stoked because I only listen to instrumentals, so this seems great for me. On the other… Why not just fix the UI of Apple Music? It drives me bonkers that when I go to the browse section, it is 99% crap that I would NEVER l

I was scammed $350 from one of the Zelle scammers. I know, I know, I was stupid for falling for it. My experience went like this: Just moved into new house, had the cable guy over setting up internet. I get a phone call from "The Elect

I agree that the $99/yr stops me from making side apps (that could blow up into the next big thing, who knows) for Apple, I’ll just focus on the web platform instead. Sorry to go on a tangent here to the bird site, but I can’t help but

I don't think you will ever get a 1:1 answer of a query that "works" in DDG/Bing but not Google, search is too curated. From my experience, when I am searching for what seems like a rare - but not completely unheard of e

Yeah it is like a lightweight JIRA. It has a GraphQL API and they provide a node sdk. We used it at my last job, and I ended up writing some CI tools utilizing their API, it was pretty nifty.

I wrote a little tool to mirror my repositories to my gitea instance. It has been months to potentially a year or two since I ran this, but it does what you’re asking. You can mirror repositories of users and repos users have starred. It de

Fwiw, for a long time, Laravel was solely developed by Taylor Otwell. It is only within the last few years that he hired a few devs to help him.

Everyone is complaining it is built in electron, and it is a browser running a browser. Brave is also built on electron and is also a browser running a browser.

And there have been more than a few in those 13 that were pretty decent breaking changes too. There are many good things about Angular for sure, but it has the same "issues" as any other frontend project.
