I leave the firewall and Windows Defender etc on constantly, I haven't experienced any of the issues with speed/IO etc you seem to have. How old is your machine? On a modern computer with a decent processor, a decent amount of RAM

You could argue that something that has been around for decades is unstoppable :)

I always thought Satoshi was more than one person, if this is true it would suggest otherwise.

Ditto. A lot of my friends/family don’t get it, they think I’m making some sort of political statement, really I just got bored of it.

Reddit’s redesign is ok, and I can use it when I have to, but it’s worse in every way than the old version.

Likewise. My parents raised myself and my siblings well, and somehow managed to give us all a good education and life despite both being on minimum wage. As an adult, I'm angry at my younger self for being annoyed at the things I used

There must be others in Belfast (Northern Ireland) lurking around here? Should we get a meetup sorted?

Great to see you’re still at this Jay, I remember the original post from a year or so ago, very nice work!

Fair. More just wondering if that have any sort of process for investigating data breaches involving software hosted on their servers.

by jmkni 8y ago
That's awesome. I'm guessing it's limited to software Amazon themselves develops and doesn't extend to software deployed to AWS?

by jmkni 8y ago
Imagine if we did that with software generally. Every time there's a data breach, an agency would investigate with the same thoroughness they do in aviation. Then, National Geographic could have a spin off show called Data Breach Inve

Well they're usually bigger. IMHO 1080p for monitors maxes out at about 22-24" before it starts to look blurry, after that you want 1440p, until about 28", which is when 4k starts to make sense.

Awesome! I love bootstrap. I know it's not as cool these days, but it still lets me put together a passable (albeit generic) UI quickly, to present whatever it is I'm actually trying to do to the user in a way they will recognise.

When you are adding a new framework to render your single page app on a server, that's the point to stop and re-evaulate your technical decisions IMHO.

+1 for Crisp. It’s the bit of Intercom most people want, and nothing else. Highly recommend it.

Reminds me of a Barnaby Jack Defcon talk about medical implants, and the idea that they could stop functioning properly if you miss your payments. I'll try and find it.

One of my old laptops had the function keys swapped (so you had to hold down Fn to hit the F key) and had mapped Sleep to F5, which I’m used to using to both start debugging and reload a web page. The amount of times I put my laptop to sl

I got my parents (late 70s) an iPad, and they picked it up more or less right away. I’m not an Apple fanboy by any means, but the reality is that a lot of people don’t need a PC or Laptop of any sort, they just need an iPad!

Once you are in Northern Ireland, the train from Belfast to (London)Derry is one of the nicest I've been on. It's two hours and you will see some incredible scenery. It's cheap as well (£19/return).

That’s a really nice way of putting it. As a grown up who has already been working as a software developer for ~10 years, do you have any recommendations on books to read, courses to do etc if I want to improve my maths? I’m not terrible, b
