For people early in their career, a job interview can be one of the most stressful experiences in their entire life. I still remember every interview I've had. Writing code on a whiteboard with "everyone's eyes on you" c

In my personal opinion, if you need to set aside 15 minutes per day, killing at least 45 mins of productivity, for people to communicate, then your communication processes are broken. All of the things you mention could be communicated thro

Interesting timing. Just as I started reading this article while watching the superbowl pre-game, a segment offering a guac recipe aired sponsored by avocados. I'm reminded how the Patagonian toothfish was renamed as "Chilean Seab

The TSA "officers" do not have arrest power and are forbidden by policy from using force (to perhaps perform a citizens arrest if allowed in state for a state law violation), so they really don't have the ability to take anyo

This subject is interesting to me. I've worked remote my entire career, and mostly positive experiences. One negative experience was at a place struggling to fill positions and opened up to remote team members, but they did not change

Have you tried doing a daily standup where everyone calls in individually from their office? In my experience things work the best when everyone is operating remotely with the same "communication handicap".

I'm unaware of any dedicated provider that will let me take a $20/mo small instance and scale it within minutes to an insanely beef 8 core instance for a day for about $20 and then back down, with less than 15 mins total downtime.

It's the difference between a census "combined statistical area" and "metropolitan statistical area". The CSA combines all the metro/micro statistical areas in a general area. See http://en.wikipedia

Using nginx/varnish as a caching reverse proxy in front of apache/php is rather common. You get all the ease of use of Apache (mod_rewrite instant .htaccess rule changes, mod_php, etc.) , ability to use whatever cpu intensive plug

Every tipping thread on HN becomes an example of why the rest of the world hates the SV/startup community. You have people who likely make more in one day than the wait person will make all week arguing over whether 15% or 20% to tip.

I would say 18% is the standard tip as that is what most restaurants (in GA at least) will charge as "automatic gratuity" for parties of 6 or more. The math on 20% is easier so a lot of people default to 20%
