I agree SM isn't the only issue. But I also don't think my teenagers are nearly as concerned about climate change and the world they are inheriting as they are living up to the life social media says they should have and feeling i

As a parent, restricting social media is one of the most effective tools I think we have to promote well being. The things you mentioned are also problematic but I can limit social media access and when I do my kids are better off.

I’ve been using google sheets as the backend database storage for a few recent projects. Using SQLite as the interface instead of the sheets API will be so nice. Btw - highly recommend sheets as a backend. For my recent projects it has been

I don’t disagree but your post greatly misses the challenge Mozilla has competing against literally the best funded for profit organizations the world has ever seen. How is rust supposed to help? The free market isn’t interested in much tha

My guess is because this is supposed to be a core competency of a bank. If a doctor unknowingly took out your heart instead of your gall bladder, it may be incompetence but that's unlikely.

Voice control using a central mic that’s always on seems to deliver a poor user experience. I found myself shouting at these assistants while they try to interpret what I say mid sentence. The novelty wore off very quickly. But voice seems

I think the point is that there’s plenty of ways in which Alexa could have been useful besides ones requiring LLM and if Amazon couldn’t deliver on these simpler use cases then it’s optimistic to think they’ll be able to do any different wi

Tx for responding. My feedback isn't specific to Rows. The dealbreaker for us was post-evaluation. On paper, the alternative option looked preferable but it wasn't until we started using it that the friction became problematic. Th

The problem with non-linear career paths are that they're less predictable and work for people who have a higher career focus. I think job (er, company) hopping is a perfectly good career strategy. It's just better suited for a di

We moved from Google Sheets to use a "fancy spreadsheet" product and the missing table stakes were a lot more painful than the benefits of the fancy features. Turns out Google Sheets has solved a lot of corner cases that we took f

Something can be harder but still possible. If you're saying that the language which math is taught in has no bearing on learning - then we disagree.

I've grown weary of subscriptions. But I also think people who don't want to pay monthly would definitely be opposed to paying the equivalent one-time purchase. Remember, Adobe Photoshop was like $500+ before they made it availabl

Maybe “Just because you can doesn’t mean you should”? There’s too many things to list that you “can” do that society collectively believes you shouldn’t because the negatives outweigh the positives.

There's something to be said for a set of technologies you can continue using for a couple decades. I don't use MySQL anymore but otherwise this is my favorite stack. Nowadays, I use sqlite, flat json files, or google sheets.
