We use rust for all sorts of stuff at work and definitely don’t find progress on anything to be slow. If anything, we ship much faster and with a lot more confidence than most (all?) of the other teams in our org that don’t use rust.

The idea of typestate programming and how it allows you to model all of the valid states and transitions between them is definitely useful in a lot of contexts. if you’ve ever had to call some init() method on an object in an OO language b

Sounds like a nightmare to be involved with anything that is written in react and requires 15,000 unit tests.

I was self-taught the entire way and am currently working on the application/inference architecture side of things. Started in 2017 or so just messing with tensorflow for proof of concept stuff, then years later now we’re using the in

Fusion 360 was the greatest bait and switch I’ve seen in a long time. Went from free for personal use to $300/mo to make it useful at all… right after everyone built their library of parts on the free version

I’ve rewritten 4 major applications in rust at work. In every case, it turned out to be a fantastic idea.

I find that it’s important to be objective with respect to these things. Some people are very good at this, have great ideas and you should listen to them. Most are not, do not and you probably shouldn’t. In other words, criticism from so

Monster-drinking, giant truck-driving redneck here for some perspective: We have no class. It’s kind of the brand.

The make deals with big companies that force us to all use their products. It’s awful, and teams is the worst part of it all.

Internal. We're using Polars as the query engine to effectively query that data statically at rest (more accurately, mmap'd on disk in arrow ipc format)

I shudder to even think of the cumulative ecological cost of Bob's line of thinking, here. Imagine if Henry Ford did this... we'd all be getting 0.3mpg, but hey... productivity!

We’re currently building real-time apis backed by terabytes of compressed parquet… hundreds of billions of ‘rows’… in exactly this fashion using polars. It amazes us at every turn. Join us and help!

Consider polars for rust. Much, much faster with fewer resources than Duckdb or datafusion in my experience.
