You should start with a single monolithic application on a single server that you scale vertically as much as possible before even thinking of scaling horizontally. Most apps won’t ever need architecture more complex than this.

I love that the idea of the one-person framework is spreading to other languages and ecosystems. I personally love rails AND Ruby and will stick with them. But there’s always more room for great frameworks like it and they can all be better

I'm not saying businesses shouldn't make bets or innovate, but in my experience hiring more people to do those things has a point of diminishing returns, and that point is much lower than most people think. From what I've exp

This tool is absolutely fantastic. I’ve used it for years and makes communication and thinking so much easier. I know that really applies to any diagraming tool but excalidraw is particularly simple with a non-existent barrier of entry.

I’ve been primarily using lazygit and man is it nice. It’s perfect for typical workflow stuff (pulling/pushing, branching, even conflict resolution). Occasionally I’ll reach for the command line for more advanced tasks though. There’s

Came here to say this. Rails is by far the best option for a startup. For starters you can focus on business-level design rather than building a bunch of plumbing. Also, the framework lends itself to small teams extremely well. A single dev

I don’t know if it’s exactly the same, but I had old DNS record pointing to a deleted DO droplet. Then someone started hosting a phishing site on a droplet with the same IP, which led to my domain getting flagged as a phishing site. I was a

I agree, in fact I used it to generate a list of colors for a very simple color picker at work. It was very helpful. That said I could also have a chat interface do that for me when I want it, so I can keep my editing experience distraction

The lack of Error Handling in Go is a feature, not a bug. See here: https://go.dev/doc/faq#exceptions . I think I'd be disappointed if Try/Catch ever made their way into the language.

This is awesome. Coming from dealing with lots of Ruby, JS, and Python, having a built-in version manager that you don't really have to think about is amazing. Being a compiled language makes this simple too. Go is such a phenomenal la

Genuine curiosity. How hard is it to creat web applications in C? It sounds appealing but I come from Ruby/Python/Js primarily and worry about how complex it would be to manage memory and all that?

Try “Rucking”. Get a backpack, put some weight in it (start with 15-20 lbs), and go for a walk. That’s it. I lost 9 lbs in just a couple weeks Rucking about 2 miles 2-3 times per week. In an additional to high calorie burn and low impact ca

I’m not sure the age of your child but have you tried one of those toy sinks that continuously pump water? There’s plenty on Amazon under $30. My neurotypical 2yo would play with it for hours at a time.
