Much appreciated indeed. Though I’m unconvinced by that particular piece on Medium. There’s no mention of their purported trading workloads, reads rather like a pile of SEO keywords spiced up by a couple charts and appears more like an atte

As long as the deps haven’t all moved to the JDK without Unsafe, I think the ecosystem is tainted by such deps for the foreseeable future. In case you guys conducted an ecosystem survey, where are we at now? Lots are still running on JDK 1.

I’m unaware of HFT systems running entirely on a JVM. Do you know of such cases? Safe Rust isn’t fast enough for HFT in my opinion. What kind of HFT? Amusingly, though somewhat tangential, I observed a rather simple Go implementation (nothi

I’m all for trimming the stdlib and rectifying mistakes, but have you evaluated how much of the ecosystem, particularly the data processing systems, such as Kafka, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, HBase to name a few, depend on it? You say “integr

In my experience, in most cases you realize you’re imminent to reinvent a wheel, you start sifting through the packages available and check GitHub, see what one or another package is up to, then I check whether the functionality that I need

Opposite to Manning, O’Reilly proper, and No Starch Press books, Packt’s aren’t even properly edited. Apress books are the worst in my experience, really zero editorial work noticeable, lots of grammatical and logical mistakes, many obvious

Sometimes the general purpose implementations just don’t cut it, depending on the data access patterns, the hardware, etc., neither do they exhibit sufficient tuning capabilities. Sometimes people find out how embarrassingly inefficient a s

Yes in Go I think I’m mostly tempted to reinvent the wheel every few lines of code, for the sheer lack of stdlib abstractions I’ve grown used to.

Depends strongly on how you define “know”-in that context I perceive it as referring to having or gaining some basic conceptual comprehension of the concept or algorithm, particularly in order to eschew reinventing the wheel in a squared sh

A wonderful UX on my mobile device. I personally am fond of Microsoft’s Fluent UI, but I can’t get their websites to work in Safari—either it doesn’t render anything (Blazor) or it manages to render but it’s just not mobile ready (React). T

Yes, VS has been terribly slow all the years. Having 64g RAM doesn’t always help much. Rider is fine on 16g, though the most recent release turned a bit sluggish after updating the SDK from RC2 to final, likely something misconfigured on my

Kotlin is used in many places where Java is or could be used. Some teams prefer Kotlin over Java for new Spring or Quarkus or Vert.x or Micronaut projects. Kotlin is relevant everywhere outside Google’s realm, too. I’m unaware of that back

In my experience Uno and Avalonia UI are quite experimental still. And I totally dislike their looks. I spoke to Mike on the topic of theming, hope they introduce something more modern. To be fair, Avalonia UI is only becoming multiplatform

I am very concerned too, we rely on Spring and RabbitMQ heavily. I’m going to call a halt on Spring and Rabbit for all new projects until the M&A fog dissipates. We run our own tech radar, likely to set the entire VMware stack on hold f

I wonder if this will be welcomed by the community over a couple next years, but if it’s just another PR stunt for a PM or PO like ML.NET, I doubt this is a good idea to include it in .NET proper.

Monads don’t go by the name, they must satisfy the axioms. How many people do it right? Even in Haskell lots of folks forget to check the axioms. Also, monads are hard to compose. I think there’s no reason to be like Cats or Arrow. It’s all
