Interesting read. Though my comment is on a benign technical detail. There were links in the article to other articles that I expected to work given how recently the article was published. For example, I was interested in reading about the

I try and practice mindfulness when I run, thinking about my breathing and steps, etc... I leave all my technology in my locker. A shuffle would be better than a phone, though. I've been considering one but I'm a big Spotify user.

Keeping a journal or diary. It's great for mental health and creativity. Not to mention the many benefits of more focused journals (food, shop journals, etc...)

Glad I actually read the article because I never would have known this: "The official discovery date is the day a human took note of the result. This is in keeping with tradition as M4253 is considered never to have been the largest kn

I've never been on a Go project so I can't speak to that but I do find myself moving between Java/C# clients every 12 to 18 months or so. Prior to the lambdas support in Java C# was a clear winner in the language category for

Thanks for asking! My answer, of course, depends on the particular scenario. I've had success with simple static methods, especially early in a project. I'd also consider some kind of composition (has-a vs is-a). The latter can be

This is great! I can't help but feel there's also an opportunity in a sequel to allude to the all too common "invent arbitrary abstract base classes to keep my code DRY" anti-pattern.

I feel like I've just finished convincing the majority of people I'm close to and communicate with regularly to use WhatsApp over standard SMS. I simply argued the group chat UX points and I don't know how privacy arguments w

I love reading just about everything and I'm having the hardest time getting momentum on Infinite Jest. I think partly due to the fact that I personally only have some vague idea of what I'm getting myself into.

I found myself in a similar position recently. I've gone back and read books usually assigned in high school and really enjoyed returning to them after all these years. Anything Vonnegut, East of Eden, and The Things They Carried, to n

Two hobbies that marry incredibly well. I've got some hinges and a hasp on order from a blacksmith in Colorado for a woodworking project and I'm incredibly excited to be adding custom forged hardware to the things I create.

Definitely not many tools that old :) You can find handsaws from the 1700's and get them working again, for example. Not that I do. I like to work wood, not tools (at least for now).

Agree on the cost of equipment. It's especially evident in hand tool community where 150+ year old equipment is going strong after some minor TLC. I've recently gotten into woodworking as a hobby in a large way. Space is a luxury
