Learning all of a Python or Ruby or Javascript, and knowing how to use it well and in a structured way, would cover a good, say, 60% of various concepts of imperative, functional and object-oriented programming Totally agree, and my issue

I've seen a lot of this lately and I think it's an admirable idea. Even if you don't become a rockstar coder yourself overnight it'll earn you a lot more respect among coders, and you'll have better conversations (provided they're not 'so w

Some URL fiddling produces http://epaper.timesofindia.com/Repository/getFiles.asp?Style... A little easier, but I'm not up to the masochism required to go any further. :)

Or when you want something from a stranger. "Excuse me sir, have you got any change..." (And similarly with the leafletting, cashiering, tour-guiding and door-holding occupations I've had in the past. You want people to feel important, and

Love how Amanda's advice was all generic, also. It shouldn't make a difference what gender or species you are for YC, and it doesn't.

Working on a startup gave me extremes of happiness and stress. Working at a 9-5 -- sorry, 8-8 -- is like Prozac. It dulls the extremes, and sometimes that can be a good thing.

Quick gut reaction to your comments - yes, £20 is way too low, you can go up at least an order of magnitude if not all the way to £500. If you are targeting companies that are already paying staffs of 30-100 in IT security, even £500 is a d

The other angle is: most of the time I use the omnibox etc to search, so I don't interact with Instant at all, but having it there on google.com for the few times I am searching for something more complex (misremembered song lyrics are a fa

I suppose they could have been, but looking at the author's website it seems he runs an on-demand print house himself (whether he uses a third party provider to do the actual printing isn't clear).

I wrote a (quite frankly dull and rambly) blog post about my upbringing to try to figure out why it made me an engineer, and it's pretty much the same. I was encouraged to tinker and nothing was ever discouraged. The only discouragement was

I was thinking the same, every single trans or genderqueer person I know is in tech; but then I found it difficult to think of people I knew of any description who weren't in some way in tech. I guess it's a matter of perspective. Still,

I absolutely do not think about stuff like that before I sleep - I try to spend at least an hour winding down with a book and peppermint tea or something similar. I do however think about tough issues when I'm half asleep in the morning, re

But is it quicker to charge every customer the same rate per lb of laundry than to spend time analysing the laundry or ask your customers to pre-sort? I'd say yes.

We're reaching out to a number of open source font developers so I bet they have been contacted. I'll inquire. I think the current priorities are international language fonts actually, but other beautiful fonts are still welcome.
