History is surely one thing, but another key point is that these speeds are always KIAS (indicated air speed). This is a measurement that doesn’t correspond to either true ground speed or true air speed (but is far more useful for flying th

I normally run Linux without any swap partition and this still happens without swap. Realistically is this kind of oom condition (where oom killer fails to trigger) I just end up pulling the plug. I’ve never been able to track down the exac

Unfortunately that’s not how they behave at all. See some of the references posted by others in other comments. Intuition doesn’t really work at all here.

I would guess that such a project is at least one hundred years away, based on its difficulty and the progress we have made in the last one hundred years (assuming a similar rate of progress, and that is not a sure thing). It is hard to des

Surely cutting down fast growing trees and burying them in landfill is a great way to sequester co2?

It unfortunately makes all the hardware very messy, end around carry is not a pretty thing. You end up needing fiddly flagged prefix adders.

Tools support both, but the vast majority of companies are using (system) Verilog for design. VHDL shops do exist, but are rare.

Both are awful languages, but Verilog is an awful language with broad industry support.

Probably just some tweaks to O2 would be enough, after all people are selecting Os over O2 because they see better performance, and that should not be happening.

Well I did want to say the P4, but I never actually had one so didn’t want to say something that turned out to be wrong. Certainly on earlier microarchitectures it did help a lot more than it does now, and there were some nice wins on the P

It’s a shame that Osize can sometimes produce truly awful code. There are a few optimisations in there that trade a byte for a massive slowdown.

Vectorisation is not a clear win, and so doesn’t belong in O2. Certainly it can deliver massive improvements in some cases (as loop unrolling could in Pentium III days), yet can cause significant binary size increases (think icache costs) a

I think it’s often due to people using private IP addresses for intermediate nodes, to save on ipv4 addresses. mtr will keep going after hitting a blackhole in the middle.

It’s just too much mass in too little space. It’s essentially the same requirement as fusion, but almost infinitely more difficult. If you could make a fusion reactor almost infinitely better then it would produce a black hole which would i

The average Linux kernel developer is probably confident in 5-10 languages, and I can’t imagine they would really have trouble picking up Rust. That kind of argument might hold for the average junior javascript dev, but kernel developers ar

Well indeed, I was dramatizing 99% as all. But you know as well as I do that TFT (even CMOS) will never run at MHz due to the awful RC constants, so it's a bit moot.

It’s all static power, not dynamic power, so clock speed is irrelevant. Still it’s an NMOS technology rather than CMOS and that is going to mean big issues for power consumption (there is a reason why CMOS won).

Is that not the axiom of finite choice, which holds in ZF set theory without AC?
