Your last line about the Dems was kind of lame and pointlessly inflammatory; it gave an excuse to delete. However, a number of comments downthread have also been rapidly flagged to death. The speed of it suggests a moderator has decided tha

The number is extreme... but it's worth noting that Facebook and Google both manage more users, often with more complex information, including people intentionally trying to break and trick their systems - at very low cost. (I'm n

Big farm machines are dumb. If we could instead build swarms of self-maintaining intelligent human-scale robots, perhaps working with genetically engineered work animals (monkeys?), they could hand-plant, hand-till, and hand-harvest crops a

The issue is that it's often possible to stretch the category "attacks" to encompass to useful arguments, if you're motivated to do so. This becomes a mechanism to shut down discussion, ultimately weakening the conversat

I love how the lower part of the rocket is battered and burned by repeated re-entry. It's starting to look like something from a gritty sci-fi movie.

My favorite is: upvoted, with tons of responses, and flagged to death. At this point being flagged is mostly an indication of speaking outside the window of permitted opinions on HN, which makes the comments actually more interesting.

Dart will stop within a few centimeters due to water resistance (unless it is very long and dense, like a metal harpoon, but you can't make such a thing). Poison will dissolve and drift away within moments of applying to a projectile.

I think the lack of thrown weapons would be more basic than fire. Maybe even held weapons for striking enemies. You can't swing a club underwater due to water resistance, and spears are hard to use well because you don't have feet

I agree that human connections are important and valuable. I just find that they can't have anything to do with work, and they certainly don't help you with your work (which is what the post above said). The people I interact with
