The disadvantage of using pre-compiler commands is that some IDEs (Xcode specifically, perhaps they all do this) don't color disabled code any differently, so at a glance you can't tell that the code block won't run. Before a commit I'll sw

That's silly. Seeing as how I had to google PKI to see what it was, I doubt I'd be able to build a Parse-like service in one afternoon. Parse may not be strictly necessary, but it's a fantastically easy and cheap way for iOS (and Android an

Is there any evidence this wouldn't be temporary? I don't know of any US cities with high density cheap housing.

As cool as that looks, I've been using DCIntrospect for a year or two, and it's nearly everything I need in a live UI inspection tool. https://github.com/domesticcatsoftware/DCIntrospect

I used to ask what a company's email quota was. Not a big deal at my last two employers, but previous jobs (banking and state government) had very low quotas, something like 20-50MB. At levels that low you can't just archive your email, you

I think the github client is great, but that may be because I only use GUI clients for the basics: pushing, pulling, branching, committing, and viewing history. I've never used a GUI client for anything more complex than this because, hones

If your business model is reliant on annoying the users of a proprietary 3rd party platform, you shouldn't be surprised when the rug gets yanked out from underneath you.

JohnsonB's comment[0] draws the same conclusion I did. The article seems to suggest that studies aren't working and we need to start listening to anecdotal evidence. I could have misinterpreted that passage, though. [0] http://news.ycombin

It bothers me to no end when people discuss "science" as if it were just one of many options available. Science is the pursuit of truth and the pursuit of truth is science. There are no alternatives.

I would highly recommend downloading and installing DCIntrospect[0]. It's designed to let you tweak layout in the simulator, but what it's really useful for is probing the UI in large, complex apps. Need to tweak the font size on a specific

Totally agree. It's well worth working closely with your designer to make your interface work with nibs, not against them. Little things like putting button icons on the left side of the button and putting a 20px gutter between elements a

This is absolutely terrible. This is a perfect example of the persecution gun owners fear when they're asked to register their weapons. We need more gun registration and exposing data like this does nothing but hinder that goal.

Also, drugs are designed and sold for personal pleasure. Guns are designed and sold for killing. The comparison between the two doesn't hold.

iTunes Match is the closest I've gotten. I pay for the upgraded storage and its enough to store my entire music library. Anywhere I go I can listen to anything I own with no delay (assume a decent network connection).

No. The software you sold them should continue to work into the future. I'm saying you shouldn't be afraid to make improvements and leave people behind if they refuse to keep up.
