There's some innocence in your comment which I wish I still appreciated. I think the grittier reality is that a lot of these startups were based on generally mediocre ideas, but were funded anyway because of relationships and contacts.

Right. Security threats are never eliminated, only mitigated, relative to the cost of mitigation.

Well this actually is interesting. Is a third party expected to respect atty client privilege if that third party is used for storage? Surely not. Also, could a law be passed that states some storage (like phones) is from the factory not pr

Thats the problem I had with the concept when I saw the movie. Is a "moment" a unit of measurement, a unit of change, what is it? How is that purely continuous?

I've written tons and tons of code in Delphi and remember it fondly. A few issues I had with it toward the end included Hjelsberg turning it into a kitchen sink, me too language, much like IMO the direction C# has gone in, and walking

No, the suck factor is greater when you're old as opposed to when you're younger, that is unless you live about the same way all your life. Imagine how a professional athlete feels. Additionally, why is a restricted diet healthy i

This.... This is about business, getting to market, making money. It's not about programmers' pet interests - those days are long gone. That's why it's important to pick a toolchain that's 1) easy to code, 2) easy t

"Part of my frustration with Scala (and Java) was the feeling that I was never able to get the full context on a given problem domain, due to its complexity." This. Same with any other kitchen sink language.

Yeah agree. While I've moved on, IMHO xcode was generally crap compared to dev envs I used back in the friggin 90's, like Delphi or Topspeed. Not many on HN know much about Delphi, but it set the gold standard for the desktop IDE.

Funny you mention that. Apple will crash if they don't get a serious personality cult back in there. Even that probably won't save them. Plus Musk is not the same brilliant, simple communicator that Jobs was.

Buyin and successful are not necessarily the same thing. Designers of Go have been disciplined enough to keep things simple - let's you keep more of the problem domain you're trying to solve, along with the code to solve it, in yo

What we like to keep missing is that golang innovates not as a language, but as a tool to contribute to software project success. Project success in the software industry is abysmal, and we still keep thinking we can spin up another languag
