Perhaps the visual aspect is responsible for a bit, but I know that even notes that I never reviewed after the fact but handwrote had more sticking power in my head than when I typed. Both my partner and I used tablets for notetaking throug

I appreciate seeing this point of view represented. It's not one I personally hold, but it is one a LOT of my friends hold, and I think it's important that it be given a voice, even if -- perhaps especially if -- a lot of people d

Definitely. As a hobbyist, I have yet to put together a good heuristic for better-quant-lower-params vs. smaller-quant-high-params. I've mentally been drawing the line at around q4, but now with IQ quants and improvements in the space

I believe on Android that's the "find devices near you," which used to be part of location but now is discrete.

I believe the location tracking is necessary for apps that are trying to detect the default/config access point that many devices spawn for setup. As I understand it, because wifi AP name awareness is approximately equal to location kn

And the freeness cuts both ways — if I could, I'd happily open my content to Mistral and all the other totally-free/open-source-releasing LLM companies' scrapers. But I can't; they're going into big corpuses or scra

Eh I think it is. Arcane things -- sure, that might be a bit of a stretch. My general rule of thumb is that if I would expect ~10% of people to know the information factually, I can likely trust what an LLM tells me.

With some elegance, too; iirc they pivot languages on the word "Golgotha" as he reads from the bible, the Latin word for a location near Jerusalem, but having a non-English/non-Russian word be when they switch made it a lot l

Mmm, I see this cutting both ways -- generally, I'd agree; safety critical things should not be left to an AI. However, cooking temperatures are information that has a factual ground truth (or at least one that has been decided on), ha

uv has been fantastic to use for little side projects. Combining uv run with `uv tool run` AKA `uvx` means one can fetch, install within a VM, and execute Python scripts from Github super easily. No git clone, no venv creation + entry + pip
