Not a fanboy -- of anything. Macs work for me, I'm glad to have them. If they don't for you, you should use something else. I have used, and still use, a ton of different operating systems, they're just tools. But changing

You're apparently buried in a use case that isn't really modernizable it seems. Windows isn't going to help you either, cloning disks in that ecosystem is a royal pain as well. They often simply don't boot properly and

I guess my first comment would be that cloning disks isn't a viable backup strategy. It hasn't been for a long time, especially since you don't have the ability to swap internal disks anyway. Apple provides time machine, wh

The healthcare system most places in the US is essentially a ghost town with nearly empty hospitals. NYC is an outlier in every way.

Not in aerospace or anywhere else where life & safety are at stake. I'm quite familiar with those worlds, and Linux doesn't exist there. Android is not 100% Linux. It's a phone OS that runs a Linux kernel and essentiall

The entire context of the discussion was desktop operating systems, not embedded devices. Aerospace doesn't run Linux on anything I've ever even heard of, that would be foolhardy to the extreme. They're running things like

Where I have to use Linux, I just boot up a headless VM and ssh into it from my Mac. Saves me a lot of headache trying to run a real Linux machine and deal with x and all its BS.

I'm not sure if you're claiming that Linux is a "major desktop operating system" (desktop added for clarity based on the context of your statement), but if you are your statement is badly misinformed. I use Linux in (m

GT's MSCS is a totally different instruction model. It's all MOOCS, not focused online learning with regular sized classes. Most of the classes have 600 students in them.

As a GA Tech student for two years now (GA Tech's OMSCS program is all MOOCS), MOOCS are generally horrible ways to actually teach. -I have no idea why anyone would have anxiety about being in class, I don't think that's a co

Of course, and I use ag when I’m searching source code as well. But ag isn’t a drop in replacement for grep, and when you have tooling that’s depends on that, replacing it simply isn’t a viable option.

Your #3 might be the real key to all this. I rarely apply for a job cold. I've nearly always had some point of networking somewhere. Even for the job I have now, for which I did just send in a resumé and an application cold, I have so
