This is the /real/ killer feature for me that I would find very difficult to live without and I don't know of any other editors that offer this functionality. Being able to remotely open my editor (either from a terminal, or

From a end user we aren't really seeing drastic changes in quality of life. My midrange Android phone is going on 3 years and is still snappy and fast. Used to be after 3 years you were starting to rethink your app choices, constantly

The sound definitely helps but I think the reason most people like the mechanical switches is that you get a good feeling for when the key has actuated. Lot of the time I have headphones and music on to drown out sounds so i'm not hear

Never got this complaint. Just because something different is installed by default doesn't mean you can't install something else (or use one of the many _buntu's to make life a little easier) A constant window manager is actu

No one wants to install ANOTHER app just to talk to you. Most of us already have at least 3 messaging apps they use on a daily basis and probably a whole lot more they use on a weekly basis.

I mean the idea isn't to never use the mouse, just use it where appropriate and don't do the back and forth of mouse to keyboard which slows you down. (One great aspect of thinkpad's trackpoint is that you never need to move

There are quite a few very large XMPP deployments in industry. I'd hardly call it dead. As a protocol it's alive and well.

What do you mean? Unless you're using a very old client like pidgin, this stuff shouldn't be a problem.

But why do you need that on a laptop? Just run it on a server. If you work for a employer with deep pockets I guess sure why not? Otherwise a workstation you can remote connect to (if you work from home or travel) is probably good enough.

90s and 2000s was a pretty different story. These days a 5 year old i7 with 16g of ram is pretty damn fast. Maybe it's a different story if you're running windows with a big IDE.

Only argument I really buy when it comes to needing bleeding edge hardware is if you're doing something like game development where it's reasonable you might be compiling, testing, and running a big IDE. This whole "productiv
