this really depends on the annotation app. ISO-conformant PDF viewers support XFDF annotations, which can either be burned into the PDF, or stored separately. the behaviour is entirely viewer-specific.

Didn’t archive.org at some point say they would ignore robots.txt? I wish they would.

Even with PDF/A, rendering fidelity is greatly impacted by the viewing software. Especially if that viewer is based on open source, where only a fraction of the PDF spec is implemented.

This is not because PDFs can’t be redacted, but was instead caused by crappy redaction software.

The author of that article profoundly misunderstands online advertising. At best, he grossly misinterpreted statements made by his sources.

Google does a really poor job of assessing page speed, especially for sites with a lot of client-side processing. Why would they think shaming sites is a good idea?

Google is getting hammered by Amazon for product-centric searches, while Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn are eating into their ad share. Bing is also surprisingly resilient, taking big steps with their search targeting capabilities. The

If you benefit from users visiting your website, then post it there. Quality content on a domain name you own will benefit your site’s overall SEO (expertise, authority, trust). Then tweet it and share it on LinkedIn. Posting it on medium

The root cause is usually poor resource estimates (ie. not spending enough time estimating effort before committing to timelines). Some estimating techniques: https://www.simplilearn.com/project-estimation-techniques-ar...

Perhaps most egregious are companies who profiteer from open source, without contributing back. Amazon comes to mind.

If you’re a manufacturer without a strong brand, it’s incredibly risky selling through Amazon. They will take your sales data to evaluate ROI of building it themselves , and then undercut you. Similar if you’re a retailer. This is why Shopi

PDFium and PDF.js have only implemented a small subset of the spec. Other features they don’t support include certain image compression formats or colour management. It’s really only suitable for the simplest of PDFs...
