You missed the last paragraph, I think: > For a production implementation it may be worth packing i into the flags field since it only needs a few bits, even with larger alphabets. Also, I bet, as in Deutsch-Schorr-Waite, the p field cou

If Trump stories are making it to the front page (which I haven't seen much of personally), isn't that because people who read HN find them interesting?

Why do you think they are trying to reinvent threads? Looks to me like it is a basic nested event loop.

To be fair, if I repurpose a term that is widely used in one way to mean something else, the confusion that ensues is kind of my fault.

Yep, you are right, I missed that "i" was initialized twice; when I see "i=0" in a for loop I assume it isn't initialized right above (otherwise, why put the "i=0" in the for loop at all?).

I'm not arguing one way or the other about open salaries, but should a company really crash and burn for hiring someone who was willing to work for some price $X, even if it is lower than their peer? I mean the person did accept the jo

I don't think this is right, is it? I think this change is more about consistent performance than startup performance. For me the JVM starts really quickly; the only performance issues I've seen there are related to large bloated

I disagree; with encapsulation, polymorphism, and composition, Rust seems OO enough to not make the term "meaningless". At least, not according to the widely used definitions I've read of OO.

I see beginner questions at the top of most tools on S.O. I don't think that implies anything about the UI of the tool. If anything, it probably implies something of the popularity. (I'm not arguing whether git's ui is good o

If you are a MITM you don't have to prompt non-2fa users for 2fa. You just replay their credentials, live, on the real site, and if the real site is asking you for 2fa, then you ask the real user for their 2fa.

Who said anything about only binary installers? I specifically mentioned install scripts as being different from the subject of the discussion, and you seem to be conflating the two.
