What I learned is you need time, and dedication. Slowly work on one project or OSS contribution... in time they'll grow. There are many devs that work with OSS full-time, creating and allowed to create new tools daily. Then with their free

Once in a while on my mobile device I accidentally click the flag link. I wonder if other people have the same issue and if this affects people's status?

Yeah seriously. The be all end all of languages has yet to arrive. Language and programming is an art, not some maximist metric. The Mona lisa is as flawed as JavaScript and every other language that exist.

I held off until couple days ago on installing 11 with Unity and was very frustrated... I didn't want to believe it, but it was way too dumbed down for me. I was almost insulted... If I want pretty GFX and UI I'll just use my mac. Yes, you

Congrats guys, I've always liked Play very very much. I honestly didn't know play was part of the typesafe stack and it looks like a lot of my old sbt+Play1+Scala module issues are gone. The first time I used Play it was because I could use

Reminds me of what PG wrote in his 2004 essay: (snippet) ---- FROM: http://www.paulgraham.com/bubble.html "What makes the nerds rich, usually, is stock options. Now there are moves afoot to make it harder for companies to grant options. T

The one paragraph that hits home to me was the last: "That’s where the “Dread Pirate Bezos” line came from. I worked hard and had fun, but every day I honestly worried they might fire me in the morning. Sure, it was a kind of paranoia. But

That would indeed be the biggest issue. You are right in that not properly having some type of failover and thus funneling all traffic to a single region or datacenter hurts. I would have thought that a Corp as big as RIM is that they'd be

I don't see anything that says it was a single server (I'm taking your words literally). Any wildly popular (wildly is debatable, nonetheless they have many customers) service can put itself in to this situation if it does not have failover

I would urge though that early stage startups be careful to not prematurely scale (with graphics). This info seems more for those that are wee bit further down the lifecycle. Just keep that in mind. If you've already got a few customers and

I had a mainframe guy once tell me they had a red button that would call home for tech support. Another big system he worked on would trigger a halon flood. And on another it was just a off switch.

Well since Notch has TM'd Scrolls he in fact might be in a better position than if he TM'd XYZ Scrolls or Scrolls XYZ. Either way this will be thrown out and Notch will win, but only after spending 6-7 figures on defending it. :-(
