The concept is synonymous with how close you can get to 'system' where there is no additional abstraction. A dinky example say is for instance you may need a password for X, but if you have access to disable the need for the password in X,

I have a lot of experience in this area and also have the same family background as yourself. I touch on some of your topics in another 'work-life' thread here: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2412147 and http://news.ycombinator.com

If you have less personal debt or no debt load, nothing should hold you back. I understand kids add to the burn rate. Ever more of a reason to do MVP and start building a team. Don't be greedy, build a big team, plan and delegate. You can M

Just like any other publication it has an audience. That is how I see TechCrunch. There isn't a publication I know of that can be all things to all people, less be correct about everything. Even the editors at Wikipedia fight over content..

I'm a little confused... You describe a small team, interesting projects, wide technical leeway but the specific job your advertising here is one in QA... that person won't actually be able to exercise 'from scratch' development other than

+1 on that, commentary is excellent and concise. If you want a brief intro to concepts in distributed DBs this is it. Grab that coffee and turn up the speakers.

You can (and probably will) burn out at that rate. I've heard this argument many times, and of those times 50% of burn outs left the industry.

Here here. If your guys can't get it done in a normal timeframe they never will. Especially so if your guys are already working 70 hrs/week. Adding another 20 won't help you. Go back to the drawing board, plan better, go MVP for each iterat

I consider 2010 the year of site clones and affiliates. You can also say horrible google results peaked then, and I wonder how much of it attributes to the use of apps such as wordpress. Perhaps with the decline of a clear revenue slice les

I think, now this is my opinion on the article that this would be more relavent if the 'jobs' were high profile or 'hacker friendly' jobs. Say for x,y,z high profile startup, or Google/Twitter etc... You wouldn't necessarily need to try ver

Why not let the platform be agnostic, or allow native deployment outside of windows land? Case in point, running mysql needs a separate web role and costs >$80 where SQL server is $10 (old prices?). If your building on top of .Net then
