Housing is a human need, gaming is not. That’s why there are tons of regulations around housing that don’t apply to other industries. Not saying I disagree with your overall point, but the analogy is weak.

This isn’t quite what you’re asking for, but Paris Is Burning is the best documentary I’ve ever seen. It’s about the drag ball scene in New York in the 80s, and watching it now is fascinating to see how such a niche culture was 40 years ahe

Well for one, often you don’t get a choice whether you’re deemed important or not. People go viral unwillingly every day. Many people, myself included, commit small crimes like jaywalking and smoking weed often, and would prefer an all-seei

It seems like you’re moving the goalposts a bit by talking about “low” body fat. I don’t have “low” body fat but I know my bmi would be significantly lower if it weren’t for the 30+lbs of extra muscle mass I’ve put on in the last 5 years. I

This could be SF specific, but I mean whatever comes out of CloudKitchens [1] and the like, regardless of whether or not CK calls its ghost restaurants “independent contractors” or “small business owners” or whatever. 1. https://

Maybe what we really want is an “independent and locally owned” option on these apps. I’m just as disinterested in corporate ghost kitchen pop ups as I am high end chains that venture capitalists have money in. I’m still with the OP, though

I find the replies to this fascinating. I don’t know if nationalization would work with FB, but it is interesting what a taboo it appears to be to even bring it up. Personally, I think 30 years ago the USPS should have made a nationalized e

You’re right it’s not helpful towards the goal of becoming an entrepreneur or whatever, but I disagree that it’s not helpful at the macro level. We should all have this basic understanding of how our society works, and how our plutocrats go

What you’re describing is auteurism. I think there is plenty of this in games already but you’re right it’s not as prevalent or mainstream as film directors. If it were to get more prevalent, it might open the door for more original or uniq

You’re right that’s something cars solve for that public transport doesn’t. But that’s not what public transit advocates are asking for.

Where in my comment did it say no one should drive to work, or that everyone should make choices the way I do? We live in a fucked up system, do what you have to do. I have the luxury of being able to choose how I get around even if it mean

What’s your point? That it makes riding the bus less safe? You’re safer on a bus without a seatbelt than you are in a small car because of the mass of the vehicle.

If you include second order effects beyond your individual experience the benefits are plenty: - better for the environment - safer (especially for pedestrians) - more people can move using less space, resulting in less traffic/higher

Is it? All of the state schools near me (east coast) are like $25k/yr in state. Edit: that’s what they were 10 years ago when I was a student. I’d guess it’s more expensive now.

To some people (myself included), forming a union contract is an improvement in itself, even without any immediate changes. If conditions are already good for workers, unions can help keep them good.

Just want to mention that the ACA actually increased insurance premium revenue [1]. It’s not that the law overcame lobbying, the law was transformed by lobbying into something palatable for the insurance industry. 1: https://www.

Was this article paid for? It’s overwhelmingly optimistic on the stats it’s glossing over. Money is paid out proportionally by stream count, with no bonuses for the whales like Drake or Beyoncé? Labels only take a 15% cut on average? Suuure

I don’t think that parable is necessarily saying you should go live on the beach, but it does effectively point out the absurdity of (American) work culture. It’s not cynical to admit that your situation is absurd without changing it, espec

While I don’t disagree that it’s probably hard for your average straight guy to get a date on Tinder, I encourage you to stop thinking about attractiveness as something objective that everyone agrees on. There’s no such thing as a 1-10 scal
