Blocking, lowering, raising, and pinning domains has been one of my favorite Kagi features. Some of my block highlights include pintrest (and all it's other TLDs) and any AI trash articles I find when looking up something programming r

I probably have rose colored glasses, but this is what I associate with Hacker News when I first started coming to this site. Truly absurd projects for no reason other than the love of the game and detailed write ups. I'm not an LLM po

Yeah but I thought they lost the contract, so that's my confusion with the parent's comment, which seemed to me to see this as something that the US military would benefit from. Maybe I misinterpreted?

Doesn't Anthropic not have that contract anymore, after all that buzz a month or so ago?

I believe that was the parent's point in surrounding "free" in quotes.

OpenRouter usage is likely skewed towards LLMs that are more niche and/or self-hostable by solid hardware that's available, but most consumers don't have on hand. I can imagine Anthropic and OpenAI LLMs often get called direc

While it's not perfect, pinning specific versions and managing all updates directly has been a solid solution for my team. Things can of course still slip through, but we're never vulnerable to these just because there was a new p

Yeah, I think marked down files and a printed version ends up being a good idea. I've never worked with media wiki directly, but I wonder if you could do an easy nightly dump of markdown contents somewhere.

Is that completely based on their expressions and reactions? I mean, you might be right, but I feel like an expression of reaction is too little to base such a damning statement on.

"Most" is probably not accurate. I can't imagine the average middle aged individual in the UK has a VPN they use regularly. I'd be pleasantly surprised if that was the case.

My small company has an office in a coworking space that's about a 1.5 hour train commute for me. I don't go in much, but when I do, I have a great time. Some excellent conversation and product discussion happens there. I even go

Al a carte content via a good standardized micro payment option sounds wonderful. Not sure if we as a society would pull it off well, but I can dream. Define micropayments, but we kind of do it with television and movies if you rent from so

Not who I would've liked to acquire Astral. As long as OpenAI doesn't force bad decisions on to Astral too hard, I'm very happy for the Astral team. They've been making some of the best Python tooling that has made the e

I think that's absolutely part of it. Code reviewing has become an even more valuable skill than ever, and I think the industry as a whole still is treating it as low value, despite it always being one of the most important parts of th

Oh yeah, I got that - my comment is a bit confusing reading it back. The fact we used to built trash like that blows my mind. Makes me content having been on the backend.

Did the same for my freshman year of Uni on a $99 Chromebook. Java and C dev on 4GB of ram wasn't an issue. That said, I quickly upgraded to a 4 year used Thinkpad and that was a huge difference.

800 lines config to compile code that's later interpreted is wild. I get the general idea behind having a script instead of a static config, so you can do some runtime config (whether or not we should have runtime changes to config is

Everything about fixing something broken is so appealing. Better for the environment, often better for your wallet, and better for the soul. I think this applies to software too! Writing good software allows it to be maintained well and it

Yeah of course PHP isn't the only programming language you can write bugs in. I don't think you can make it impossible to shoot yourself in the foot, but PHP gives you more opportunities than some other languages, especially with

PHP is a fine language. It started my career. That said, it has a lot of baggage that can let you shoot yourself in the foot. Modern PHP is pretty awesome though.

I agree, but nothing about LLM assisted coding is by neccessity "technical debt". Tons of developers will use it to spit out shitty code they don't even review themselves, but the concept at it's core doesn't always

Definitely. If you're doing regular queries with filters on jsonb columns, having the index directly on the JSON paths is really powerful. If I have a jsonb filter in the codebase at all, it probably needs an index, unless I know the r
