Etherium 2.0's move to proof of stake will help with the ridiculous energy usage that bitcoin has, but I don't see a blockchain ever being able to handle the traffic of a major card processor like visa. Even with sharding, your la

Hey I know this didn't get a lot of attention here, but I just wanted to say that this site has been a huge help for me personally. Keep it up - it's been one of the best ways to evaluate the libraries that are out there.

I would say that this corollary would only be possible once webcomponents have form support in all browsers. In my opinion this is the last major hurdle before there is a native alternative for reusable components in the browser. Firefox is

Solid idea, but the same thing that makes it work is what makes it impractical. Helium is almost impossible to contain long term, and would have to be replenished regularly.

Great to hear. I hope that this means we'll get some hardware vendors roadmapping encoding support. AV1 is great and will likely replace things eventually, but holy hell encoding is slow right now. At the moment it only seems worth it

Personally I switched to a 32:9 ultrawide. I use the Samsung CRG9 which I originally bought for gaming. Interestingly I found it to be subpar for gaming (game huds are typically glued to the left and right of the screen, which is so far in

For an archival format though, SVG is likely a better choice. The small difference in size is worth it for long term accessibility.

Is the wavelength restriction a blocker though? There's already use of quantum dot film to shift light wavelengths into spectrums more suitable for growing plants[1]. Theoretically shouldn't this be able to be used to shift a larg

I work on design systems as my day-to-day job. This is the first post I've seen on HN that actually captures how to properly set up your color palette. The author's early call out on how palette generators are not a one-stop-shop

Pretty much every design system out there disagrees with you. Material (Google's design system) uses 10 shades, Fluent (Microsoft's) uses 8, Lightning (Salesforce's) uses 12. Even the most basic terminals in use support 2 sha

Docker is likely saying that it doesn’t natively run on ARM yet. Apple’s demo was likely using Rosetta. That said this is all speculation at this point. We’ll know tomorrow.

I think you've misunderstood. I'm saying that I wouldn't want to directly serve a client-encoded video without doing an encoding pass on the server. Youtube re-encodes all video regardless of the format it's uploaded in.

On one hand this is great - offload the processing to the client side. On the other hand, I don't know if I'd trust a client-encoded video when serving video content to thousands of other users. Curious about the performance thoug

I’m truly amazed at how well discord got down their invite-to-server flow. It’s honestly the best I’ve seen. I get annoyed when I have to join a separate slack org, but joining a discord server has practically no barrier at all. It means th
