This is one the most popular topics in the Sony vs Bose war. For reasons I haven’t seen any explanation for, Sony headphones have much less of that vacuum feeling.

There is a running conspiracy theory that manufacturers found out about possible damage around 2018, and coincidentally all the popular models like the Sony WH1000 got firmware upgrades that perceivably downgraded the quality of ANC. I have

Well, half of the reports in the forum thread are for other models , not only the AirPods Pro, including the original AirPods causing tinnitus..

It will use typescript type definitions when available, even if you’re writing plain JS. Auto complete works perfectly, what’s not remotely the same?

You get the same with JavaScript if you use any mainstream editor with TS support (you don’t need to be using TS yourself).

French fries are an American invention. “Frenched” (thin sliced) fries. Belgian fries are just fries.

Concurrency != parallelism. You can of course run a multi-process cluster, but that’s besides the point (and these days it’s best to run a single process inside orchestration like k8s). Basically almost every high performing server atm is r

Almost no code uses node’s sync APIs unless explicitly asked to, its ingrained in developer practices to the same level as not polluting global scope. Node’s threads are for cases you really want to do heavy computation without resorting to

> JS has an equally bad concurrency story as Ruby. Maybe even worse. This is absolutely false. Yes, JS is single threaded, but all IO is async and happens via a worker pool. On top of that it is 3-10x faster than Ruby for most tasks due

The first enterprise Java app I was a part of, failed out of the gate because some external requests were too long and exhausted the thread pool (100 by default).

Does that mean you would take food production in-house to be able to scale your “model 3”? My comment was from the perspective of partnering with existing restaurants as a service. If you do that, what will be your advantage and scalability

I’m curious why would VC fund this. It will only be as scalable as restaurants are in terms of developing a special menu, instructions and packaging. What is the 100x business model here?

I did not write this as a defense of keeping the monarchy around just for the curiosity value, or from the raking-in-cash angle, just highlighting that the experience is quite different for visitors.

Actually it does - the experience of visiting Versailles, a sort of preserved museum that exist solely for tourism, is entirely different from visiting an actual royal palace. Despite the historical significance it was one of the least memo

I don’t understand the drama. Selling the royal estate kind of defeats its purpose. The people who bought a lease knew exactly what they were paying for, it’s not something you buy to “leave for your children”...

This is the story you want to believe in. I was doing the exact same kind of interactive apps 10 years ago without any of this crap. Some things are easier, but their are not worth the 10x complexity.

Rollup’s tree shaking should have the same result - the way I understand it, it puts all module exports in the same scope, renaming variables to avoid conflicts, and removing duplicates. Then while “shaking” the dependency tree, a function

How is this guy only getting 10 hours out of his Air M1? It easily lasts over 16h for work if you use Safari. It can play 20+ hours of 4K video non-stop. The battery life comparison image is provided by Intel PR.

This is available in Rollup (and webpack 5? 6?), and the new generation tools like Snowpack / Vite benefit from native imports, no bundling needed to start with.
