Are others getting a lot of recommendations for old movies? I have to be in just the right mood for a movie from the 1950s or earlier...

Unfortunately for Unity, they don't make any more money on a hit game than on a big-budget failure. All that matters is how many seat licenses they sell. Selling developer tools is not a great business.

I'm not sure that's what he's saying: "the sample used herein is a large and random subset of the to-be-completed data set". I read that as meaning database is to-be-completed, and he's sampling from that.

This analysis is based on crowd-sourced data on shootings. I'm not saying that makes it invalid, but I'd need to know more about the dataset before trusting the results. It seems hard to have it be complete. The official FBI data

Internationally you get $0.20/min calls and unlimited 2G data. I'm getting a consistent 0.07 Mbps in Buenos Aires the last few days!

I suspect some of these companies also do surveillance on non-public social media posts. It's about the only explanation I can think of for the volume of friend requests I get from fake profiles of attractive women...

I'm of two minds about this. Everything you mention is great background to have. (Though non-trivial programs can't be reasoned about mathematically much more than biological systems can). I think this deep background is a great g

I totally agree this is the right approach. It seems like people are figuring this out. 10 years ago I did the Nerve personals (they were syndicated on various sites, I found them on The Onion) A lot of women seemed inclined to send a bunch

The probes would be 1g, not 100g. They're sending the "guts" of an iPhone. 7kT is half of the Hiroshima bomb. Still destructive, especially if you've got a bunch of them.

Yes background checks are required at licensed gun stores. But as many as 40% of gun sales are private.

I actually think it should be national, but reforms should be evidence based. First off, gun homicides are actually down over 50% since the early 90s. There are still too many, of course. Assault weapons bans are ineffective, since they acc

So people get 1 month performance plans after positive or neutral reviews? Or are these places that don't do regular reviews? I've honestly never heard of that. Want to name names?

I don't know much about Hubspot, but Lyons should know that sudden firings without an explanation are not common. The norm is quarterly reviews, and firing only after you've had several negative ones. Extortion is obviously not co

FWIW my wife puts the odds of victory on this at something like 70% at this point. She's a director at Stanford's Center for Internet and Society, working on freedom of expression. That's based on this study: http:/

It's the 90s on the European internet in other ways, or almost. For instance broadband penetration in Belgium is about where it was in 2003. There are lots of internet cafes. Edit: This is incorrect. European broadband is fine.

To paraphrase Louis CK: Everything is amazing and some people aren't happy. The amazing new things make them forget that the crappier old things are still around. They just need to look underneath the big pile of amazing new things.

I think it was just one mishap? That the mobile Netflix site doesn't expose the DVD queue. But the desktop site works fine on mobile. (edit - Yes, two. The app doesn't deal with DVDs either)
