One thing Go took from C that I dislike: overly short variable names (like in interface names when implementing function are usually 1 or 2 letters, but also chan!). Other random things I hate: - first element in a struct, if unnamed, acts

Which company will design and make 6G telco hardware in Germany? I guess it will be 3/4/5G for a while, until they can someday cover the country just barely, and then 6G a decade and half later than everyone else (or is it by givi

I once saw people start their month with 0 on their bank account, and live in the negative monthly credit their bank allows. Them having a job (luckily), means they just about manage to fill that debt back at the end of the month, covering

Not really. The solution is elsewhere: let me update my programs centrally without the program deciding. Like the App Store or the apt repository. It’s fair if devs don’t accept reports unless the user runs the latest version. If you care a

That reminds me of a French saying that seems fitting: C'est pas parce qu'ils sont nombreux à avoir tort qu'ils ont raison!

This is somewhat real world, except real world would probably index some parquet columns to avoid a full scan like that.

Great stuff! But, I’m afraid it will actually lead to even more heavily templated C++ in a rebound effect!

Like you won’t be able to install clickhouse from homebrew for as long as clickhouse produce unsigned binaries. It’s the only one affected that I currently use.

Most of the world isn’t even covered by this feature yet, like the EU digital id and driving licences.

TIL: PDF/UA is a thing! While reading the article I could only think that all this semantic stuff is what html is about! So, I think it makes more sense to do what arxiv is doing: providing a html version of articles on top of pdfs. I’

I think the goal of reducing short flights isn’t bad (or rather decrease transportation CO2 emissions). But, the way is not working: even today flights are faster and often cheaper than trains, with less delays.

Reminds me of a question I had when working in a restaurant: what’s the difference between home dishwashers and restaurant dishwashers? I mean, how come restaurants dishwashers wash things under 5 minutes? (Albeit with a lot of noise and wi

I strongly recommend the entire channel, if you want to learn more about lubricants in general. It's far from software work, but it's so interesting IMO!

C# is blessed on that front. Java’s SIMD state is still sad, and golang is not as great either.

I think there is a tension between preserving artifacts as-is, vs restoring them. Restoring them would also cause repeated wear and tear, and potentially erasing clues we haven't recognised as important yet. Making replicas is more sui

Sounds interesting. But, languages like Java or python simply lack even programming constructs to program on GPUs easily. No standardised ISA on GPUs also mean compilers can’t really provide a translation layer. Let’s hope things get better

Last time I checked, they don’t support the exact same format in each product. Thus, we stick with hurl. QA seems to stick to robot framework instead. Some use Bruno.
