That about sums it up. If you're going to pick exactly one combination, why pick the one that's loaded for so many people? But honestly I wouldn't have even noticed if it hadn't been so unbalanced. Here's the actu

Right, that's the USB Power Delivery (PD) spec and to get more than 5V, both sides (charger & device) need to support it. I'm guessing (no real idea) that the switch is vanilla 5V like most phones and tablets. Wouldn't mi

I get it. Most of the people who watch the presentation won't care. It just would have been such an easy change that wouldn't have made the presentation any worse for anyone, and it would have made it a bit better for some. It

The nerd in me is curious about the USB-C charger. Presumably this isn’t USB-C Power Delivery? Assuming 5V, how many MAh do I need in my external battery to run for an hour? How much power does this thing need? Also, do the JoyCon run out o

Showing a demo of a fighting game where a male character repeatedly punches and ultimately knocks out a female character just felt like a missed opportunity to me. How hard would it be to flip that for the demo? (Already regretting posting

Our office is split mac/pc. We bought about 12 of the T440s/T450s for the pc folks. There is a lot to like. One surprise perk: they use the same mini-displayport dongles to connect to projectors, so we can just leave the dongles o

For now, few video streams are anywhere near 100mbit. App downloads would be faster for the tiny slice of people with > 100mbit internet who also aren’t using wireless. I guess that’s something? Probably not worth a smaller margin to App

Ugh. Why the comment hate on HN? Reading code, it’s pretty astoundingly rare that I look at code without comments and think, man, this code is so self-explanatory! Conversly some of the best code I’ve ever read has comments that clearly exp

If you have any question about whether VoltDB could fit or not, let us know. It's surely not as general purpose as PG, but yes, it's faster for many use cases and its clustering is fully consistent.

I believe a country that is actively engaged in the political process is good for all Americans, especially my children who will inherit my generation's screw-ups. I believe a country where 30% of people vote is worse than one where 60

I don't have to hold the door for the person behind me, I do it because I'm (sometimes) not a jerk. I vote (in MA) not because I'm going to pick the president, but for two reasons: 1) People literally died for my right to vot

I don't think so, no. You always have the right to complain that both choices suck and the two party system hurts our democracy. But the best way to do that is not to vote for someone else; a symbolic, but possibly harmful act. Petitio

As I said earlier, in 2000 people voted for Nader and its a pretty direct path to a trillion dollar war that cost thousands of American lives, cost hundreds of thousands of non-American lives, and led semi-directly to ISIS. I don't bla

I’m sympathetic, but as someone who remembers the 2000 election and how it was clearly altered by a third party candidate, with actual serious ramifications (war, etc…), I can’t support this view (at least not in a state that might matter).

Sometimes this is slower than serialization. In fact, when you’re doing KV-CRUD work on in-memory data, it’s often slower than serialization. Keeping RW-sets is non-trivial overhead compared to the hardest typical part of KV-CRUD, tree or

The stale and uncommitted reads was an optimization. It seemed like a harmless optimization to make at the time, and we were wrong. v6.4 allows you to pick strong serializability (default) or the old behavior at startup. For 100% read workl
