Looks scary, but are trending search terms still reliable when those terms are all over the news?

I was pretty interested to read this, but there's no content here. The author doesn't explain why he switched to windows 7, besides that it's "more fun". No specifics.

This is actually kind of an important point. I don't know what you're being downvoted for. The upshot is that you really only notice the 6bit/8bit difference on large, smooth gradients.

Yeah, I definitely should. I didn't realize the price had dropped so low.

Thanks, I'll definitely give that a try. I have 2g of ram on my macbook, and usually only allocate 512 mb to my XP VMs.

I use vmware fusion, and I keep hearing great things about virtualbox. But when I tested the new 3.0 version a couple of days ago I still got multi-second freezes, increased CPU usage and a lot of general slowness. And yes, I have the virtu

There are a couple of mac apps I use that get you most of the way there: MercuryMover - lets you move windows and resize them to preset positions with hotkeys (left half of screen, top half of screen, etc.) MondoMouse - adds hotkeys that al

Why do we pretend that it's some sort of virtue to be unconcerned with those we surround ourselves with? It's no virtue. After all, why are we here on HN instead of Digg or Reddit? I'm sure a demographic analysis of that switchover would yi

If you thought of organisms as computers with IP addresses, each functional group of cells in the organism would be listening to the environment through its own active port. So, as port 25 maps specifically to SMTP services on a computer,

Statements like this just feel wrong to me. Shouldn't there be some difference between being a monopoly and simply being successful? Google isn't doing anything to stop you from building a competing search engine, and people try every so of

Nonsense. Since when is being opinionated something to be avoided? A rant like this just shows you have passion, and maybe you're still young enough that you haven't learned to keep your head down and pretend otherwise.

DoubleCommand works great for this as well, even in Firefox 3, and includes a lot of other handy key-remapping.

1.) SteerMouse - tweak the mouse acceleration curve. If you're coming from a PC and you feel like your mouse doesn't move right, this will help. 2.) SizeUp - size and and position windows with hotkeys. For example, quickly set two windows t

The position of the pen could be tracked via infrared with existing tech, but you'd also need to be able to track the position and angle of the glasses in order to render the view correctly. Also, I doubt that 3 infrared stations would actu

After trying half a dozen solutions to fix the odd mouse acceleration curve, I found an app called SteerMouse that actually does the trick. If you're one of those odd people who's sensitive to this (like me) I'd definitely recommend it. ht

His logo example uses bad typography, questionable color choices, and is too busy. But it also fails one of the most basic, objective tests of logo-ness, which is: Can it be scaled down easily? It can't. There are too many fine details. Thi

Downvotes are problematic, because even the best people can't always be trusted to use them correctly. A downvote should be reserved for something offtopic, evil, mean, etc., but too often a downvote simply means "I disagree".

"Google is abusing its monopoly position by overcharging corporations for access to consumers." Aren't google adwords basically bought at auction? I don't see how you could accuse google of overcharging.

If you're going to do an up-front quote, it's important to have an agreed-upon task list with your client. You don't have to go overboard on it, but if you don't have anything written down it's too easy for the client to sneak work onto you
